Overview
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Materials Engineering Technologist or Technician with 2 to 3+ years of experience to join our team at our #730, 1075 W Georgia Street, Vancouver, British Columbia location.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.
Responsibilities
A Construction Materials Engineering Technologist’s responsibility consist primarily of field and laboratory assignments relating to deep foundation and construction materials, including but not limited to post-construction integrity testing for drilled shaft deep foundations (TIP, CSL), bridge deck testing and advanced soil and construction materials testing. The duties will also include reading blueprints, assisting and preparing engineering specifications and drawings and performing field surveys. Proven experience in highways and transportation as well as geotechnical experience will be an asset. Travelling to local and construction sites is required.
Qualifications
To qualify for this role, you must have a relevant post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, 2 to 3 years of experience, and a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
As our ideal candidate, you’ll join us with excellent communication skills. Strong computer skills, including all MS applications, is required and specialty software such as Pile Dynamic Thermal Profiler and CHAMP-Q, is an asset.

Additional Information
- A flexible schedule, with the ability to work out of town for extended periods, overtime, weekends and evenings is required;
- Shift work may be required depending on workload and client/project needs;
- Criminal Record Check will be conducted; and,
- 3 Year Driver’s Abstract and a Claims Experience Letter will be requested.
Base Salary Range
Salary $76,500.00 per annum but may be adjusted upward for applicants whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting.
