Position Title: Life Enrichment Programmer
Reports to: Rehabilitation/Enrichment Service Manager
Job Location: Brockville, Ontario
Salary Range / Classification: $23.66 to $25.04 per hour
Job Type: Part-time, permanent
Number of positions: 2
Availability / Rotation: Ability and willingness to work a rotation all shifts. Availability for call-in shifts

Position Overview:
The Life Enrichment Programmer plays a key role in enhancing the quality of life for residents through meaningful activities that promote engagement, wellness, and a sense of community. This position works collaboratively with the Physiotherapy Manager to plan, organize, and implement life enrichment programs, with a focus on innovation, resident choice, and person-centered care.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and organization of Life Enrichment Programs in collaboration with the Physiotherapy Manager.
- Assess, develop, implement, and monitor fulfilling activities that encourage resident participation within the six dimensions of wellness (P.I.E.C.E.S. framework).
- Explore and incorporate new, innovative ideas into the Life Enrichment Program to promote resident engagement.
- Assist in the orientation and direction of students and summer staff within the Life Enrichment Department.
- Work cooperatively with volunteers to support program delivery.
- Support residents in their transition into and out of residency at Sherwood Park Manor.
- Assist in all aspects of the Life Enrichment Program, including preparation, facilitation, and evaluation of programs.
- Provide guidance to Life Enrichment staff, students, and volunteers to ensure effective program delivery and monitor outcomes.
- Be available to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the program.
- Appropriately report any unusual occurrences related to residents to the appropriate Department Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreational and Leisure Studies.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience working in Recreation and Leisure
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
- Interest in developing skills related to Life Enrichment Programs.
- Knowledge of Montessori Methods for Dementia and recreational leisure activities.
- A caring personality exhibited by positive interactions with residents and staff.
- Ability to work independently.

- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare teams, ensuring clarity and compassion.
- Listen actively to residents’ needs, concerns, and preferences, offering emotional support and reassurance.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided, including any changes in the resident’s condition.
Safety and Infection Control
- Follow established protocols for infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure the resident’s living environment is safe, clean, and free of hazards to prevent falls or accidents.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and accidents.
Resident-Centered Care
- Respect and support residents preferences, values, and cultural beliefs in the care plan.
- Advocate for the needs of the resident, ensuring their rights and wishes are respected in all interactions.
- Tailor care to meet resident needs, maintaining flexibility and adaptability in caregiving.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, family members, and other support workers to deliver holistic care.
- Participate in team meetings and care plan discussions to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
- Share knowledge and insights with colleagues to improve the overall care environment.
Time Management and Organizational Skills
- Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to provide care in a timely manner.
- Maintain an organized system for tracking resident care/or duties.
- Adapt to changes in schedule or care needs, managing multiple tasks without compromising quality of care.
Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusivity
- Show respect for diverse cultural, religious, and personal beliefs and values.
- Provide care that is sensitive to the needs of the resident from various backgrounds.
- Maintain a non-judgmental and inclusive attitude, ensuring all residents and colleagues feel valued and respected.
Professionalism and Ethical Conduct
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy laws and ethical guidelines.
- Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism in appearance, behavior, and communication.
- Exhibit empathy, patience, and respect in all interactions with residents, families, and colleagues.
Working Conditions:
All while showing compassion and care to the Manor’s residents:
- Stand and walk for long periods
- Sit for short periods
- Bend, stoop, and carry
- Push/pull wheeled equipment
- Safely transfer and lift (up to 20 kg.) in accordance with Sherwood Park Manor’s transfer and lift procedures
- Ability to move and to arrange standard tables and chairs, climb ladders, and to reach above the head.
