Academic Coordinator in Astronomy and Astrophysics

Athabasca University's Faculty of Science and Technologyis currently recruiting for the position ofAcademic Coordinator, Astronomy and Astrophysics.
This is a part-time[0.2FTE] term position November 2025 to August 31, 2026.

The Position:
The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the teaching, administration, and maintenance of the following undergraduate courses:
- ASTR 205: Universe - The Ultimate Frontier
- ASTR 211: Astronomy: Introduction and the Solar System
Academic Coordinator duties include handling of student issues (grade appeals, course challenges, exam reviews, exams delivery when required, transfer credit assessment requests, academic misconduct), assessments, course development, and supervising the team of Academic Experts (AEs) who are responsible for assisting students and marking. Service to the Centre for Science and the Faculty of Science and Technology through participation in meetings and committees is also required in the position.
Qualifications:
- A Master's or PhD degree in Astronomy, or Physics with some astronomy background, is required.
- Extensive experience in online learning and familiarity with AU specific digital teaching and administration technologies (Moodle, Brightspace, GreyMatter, Grades, Much Learning, MS Teams, SharePoint) would also be desired assets.
In line with the new AU strategic plan Like No Other and other university plans, including the Nukskahtowinplan, the FST is committed to interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and engaged citizenship. Evidence of teaching excellence is required, and familiarity with open and online education is encouraged. The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork and student success. All educational credentials must be recognized in Canada.
