InnoTech Alberta is seeking a Business Analyst to support its strategic planning and market analysis to advance the applied research and development activities it provides to support Alberta’s innovation ecosystem. This role is idea for professionals with business acumen who are passionate about innovation and want to be part of creating the world-class services needed to support Alberta’s existing and emerging industries.
This 12-month term position is based in our Edmonton Research and Development Park location in South Edmonton. Employment benefits will be provided to the successful candidate upon commencement. Hybrid work is possible, but the successful candidate must be based in Edmonton, Alberta.

Here’s some more information about the position:
This position reports directly to the Manager, Corporate Planning and Consulting, and contributes to supporting both strategic and operational aspects of InnoTech. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent working with this Manager and several leads to support the development and evaluation of strategic directions several service areas. This requires creativity in carrying out research, synthesizing information, identifying existing & needed capabilities, and effectively communicating learnings back to the team.
The remaining time will be focused on addressing more immediate operational needs and requests originating from the VP, Exec Directors., or Directors (e.g., pulling and analyzing information to support a communications brief needed in a week or helping to organize a staff training session).
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Initiatives
- Advance Long-Term Initiatives: Collaborate with internal teams to help define and progress the strategic direction of a few priority offerings, helping to ensure solid strategies are developed.
- Research and Synthesize Information: Conduct research, analyze data, and synthesize findings to support decision-making and strategy development.
- Map Capabilities: Document and map existing organizational capabilities in focus areas along with those of potential competitors and collaborators in other regions.
- Engage with Technical Staff: Proactively connect with our scientists and engineers and other stakeholders to understand emerging opportunities and to gather insights that will inform how Alberta positions itself.
- Prepare Communications Materials: Develop clear and concise materials (e.g., presentations, briefs) to communicate findings or recommendations to various audiences.
Organizational Support
- Execute Assigned Projects: Take ownership of specific projects or tasks as delegated by the Manager, Planning and Consulting, ensuring high-quality execution and timely delivery.
- Support Operational Needs: Provide timely and effective support to business operations, including gathering, organizing, and presenting information as requested by leadership.
- Balance Short- and Long-Term Priorities: Effectively manage time and resources to deliver on both immediate operational needs and longer-term strategic initiatives.
- Assist with “Fire Suppression” Tasks: Responding quickly to requests from leadership by providing support to address high-priority or time-sensitive issues.
- Assist in the development of change enablement materials including briefing decks, training content, communication plans.
Experience and Skills we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, public policy, engineering or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in strategic planning, organizational development, change management, or business analysis.
- Strong communication abilities (written and oral)
- Strong engagement skills.
- Experience supporting organizational initiatives, planning cycles, and performance tracking.
- Demonstrated passion for enabling innovation and driving organizational change.
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity or expertise with companies in Alberta’s Natural Resource Recovery; Applied Digital & Emerging Technologies; Advanced Materials & Aerospace; or Agricultural areas.
- Experience with corporate innovation systems and applied research and development environments.
- Familiarity with strategic planning or portfolio management approaches.
