The City of Port Coquitlam’s Engineering and Public Works Department is looking for a diversely skilled professional for the role of Engineering Technologist II in the Infrastructure Planning division. Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure Planning, this position involves advanced administrative and technical civil engineering work involved in planning, reviewing and budgeting of municipal infrastructure including roads, drainage, water and sanitary systems.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining and updating the computerized models and databases for determining the adequacy of existing and proposed Engineering infrastructure.
- Assisting in the development of the capital works program for road, drainage, sanitary sewer and water works including preparation of project budgets and scope of work; and, maintains a database of project costs and unit pricing.
- Supporting in the development of asset management plans for municipal infrastructure.
- Assisting in the undertaking and completion of larger capital works projects, including monitoring of the project schedule and budget.
- Designing and drafting smaller capital works projects using CAD software.
- Liaising with consultants, contractors, other government agencies and utilities, and the public on a variety of matters.
- Obtaining and reviewing as-construction drawings and records and updating the City’s asset management system including the assigning of actual costs.
- Researching and preparing reports, memos and correspondence on a variety of engineering and environmental issues
- Assisting in the enforcement of bylaws relating to engineering, construction, and environmental issues.
- Other related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate for this position will have:
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from an Institute of Technology, supplemented by safety, environmental and other related courses.
- Three years of utility modelling and asset management experience in municipal engineering
- Familiarity with utility modelling software, GIS mapping and asset management
- Certification (or eligibility) as an Applied Science Technologists (AScT) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License for the Province of British Columbia
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with a variety of individuals
- A commitment to service excellence and continuous improvement
- A positive and solution-oriented attitude
