Freshwater Hatchery Technician (Fanny Bay, BC)
Cermaq Canada is seeking to fill the role of Freshwater Hatchery Technician 3 role at our Stelling Road Hatchery in Fanny Bay, BC.
You bring your enthusiasm for wanting to learn and working indoors and out. Your team wants to teach you how to care for the fish. This position is responsible for general hatchery husbandry operations, including incubation, water quality monitoring, mortality removals, various fish handling projects and spawning related activities. This is a broodstock specific site, however broodstock specific experience is not mandatory. Doing this all safely is important.
We supply you with work clothes (pants, shirts, and hoody) and any personal protective equipment (rain gear and steel toed boots to start).

Position Details:
- Our full-time position includes 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week, with 2 consecutive days off working Monday to Fridays.
- Timely and reliable transportation is considered an asset to ensure you can travel to and from the hatchery in various weather conditions.
- Upon hire, you are eligible for company benefits, which include extended health, dental, and vision care, AD&D insurance, life and dependent insurance, and long-term disability insurance. A company matching RRSP is available after the 3-month probation period is completed.
- We offer employee discount programs for fuel, clothing, insurance, etc
- Vacation pay is accrued at a starting rate of 6% (3 weeks) per year.
Position Requirements
- You want to be someone who likes to work outside and inside in any weather while being comfortable walking and standing for most of the day.
- A team player with a positive mindset, gets along great with others and are always looking to lend a hand.
- Ability to work independently, without supervision; you take initiative
- You ensure that you keep yourself and your team safe.
- General knowledge of water quality monitoring in both recirculation and flow through technologies.
- Understanding and adherence to hatchery biosecurity, procedures, and protocols.
- Knowledge and experience with salmon hatchery operations would be an asset.
- RAS operating, and minor maintenance experience would be preferred but not mandatory.
- Broodstock related knowledge would be beneficial but is not mandatory.
