What is the Opportunity? As a North American leader in infrastructure development, Aecon is safely and sustainably building what matters for future generations to thrive! Within Aecon’s Utilities sector, Aecon Power Services has extensive experience delivering complex electrical transmission and substation projects.

We are currently seeking a Director, Operations to lead our Aecon Power Services operations with accountability for transmission and substation portfolios, primarily within Canada. As a key member of our leadership team reporting to the Vice President, Electrical, you will drive the successful growth and operational execution of this business.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a strategy to grow and enhance Aecon Utilities’ transmission and substation capabilities in the North American market
• Accountable for leading strategic business development activities, formulating solutions to address client challenges while also pursuing new projects and opportunities with new and existing clients
• Responsible for the overall leadership and execution of existing projects to ensure operations are executed in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner
• Accountable for the development and execution of the annual business plan for Aecon Power Services
• Assist in the establishment and ensure compliance of operational short-term and long-term goals with overall organizational objectives
• Participate in the development of long-term strategy for Aecon Power Services in the North American market
• Responsible for the leadership, development, engagement and retention of their team
• Influence, motivate and inform employees about the organizational strategy and progress

Required Knowledge And Experience

• Proven leadership, business development and operational experience in the industry at a similar level (transmission, substation)
• Experience in successfully building and scaling a construction operation, safely and profitably
• Well established client relationships with major utilities in the high voltage transmission sector
• Definitive focus on sustaining work with a demonstrated track record of building and managing a team and executing multiple projects simultaneously
• Demonstrated ability to manage the operational and financial performance of a business unit
• Strong connections, relationships and professional presence in the industry with clients
• Highly developed communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, public officials, team, peers and the general public
• Strong understanding of the drivers in the industry (i.e business trends, regulatory, economic, and political)
• Experience in assessing and negotiating contracts
• Exceptional leadership and communication skills with a strategic mindset and problem-solving ability.
• A strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
• Ability to travel extensively across North America
