Job Description Summary

The Manufacturing Technologist plays a key hands-on role in the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of medical research laboratory instruments.You will contribute directly to the production of advanced lab automation systems used by researchers around the world, bringing strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and experience in a production environment to support high-quality, reliable instrument build.

You will be part of a dynamic, product manufacturing team responsible for the assembly and testing of the electrical and mechanical technology in our benchtop instruments. As Canada’s largest biotechnology company, STEMCELL provides leading edge instrument and reagent solutions that drive our customers' research at the forefront of science. The role provides an opportunity to contribute in manufacturing and design innovation of products for our customers, as well as maintaining our leadership presence in the life sciences industry.

We are currently recruiting for one permanent full time position and one 12 month fixed term position.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently perform instrument module electrical and mechanical assembly; verify the product quality and performance
  • Diagnose and resolve all common assembly and system performance issues
  • Perform refurbishment activities for instruments and prepare for resale
  • Adhere to the established manufacturing schedule by effective planning and time management
  • Accountable for inventory control of raw materials, sub-assemblies and finished goods (incoming inspections, regular cycle count, inventory transactions and adjustments in ERP system)
  • Provide guidance to the design team on requirements for manufacturability
  • Maintain device manufacturing, assembly and testing records
  • Draft and update assembly instruction documents and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Represent the Manufacturing Team during Quality and TÜV audits
  • Ensure compliance of written procedures consistent with ISO 13485 for component incoming inspection, part picking, instrument assembly, and product release testing
  • Responsible for training and mentoring of staff as required

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma with 5-8 years of relevant experience, preferably with at least 2 years of experience in manufacturing mechanical, electrical, and optical systems
  • Familiarity with robotics, vision systems, liquid handling, automation and software systems with strong diagnostic and problem solving skills
  • Specialization or on-the-job experience required, experience in ISO certified companies is an asset
  • Team oriented yet self-motivated and able to work independently with a high attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) both in one-on-one and in group settings
  • Highly flexible, good tolerance for ambiguity and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities

The annual salary for this job ranges from:

$71,200.00 - $96,400.00

STEMCELL determines an individual’s pay within the range based on multiple factors including experience, education, job-related skills, and equity within the team or organization. For jobs that are eligible for sales incentives, the range noted above is inclusive of target incentives; actual incentives are based on individual performance results in accordance with company policy. In addition to base salary, STEMCELL offers a comprehensive total rewards package including health benefits, retirement savings, and more.
