Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Asset Management, the Senior Project Manager within the Public Works’ Asset Management section will be responsible for coordinating capital programming, risk assessment registers and tracking and reporting performance related to water, wastewater, transportation and solid waste infrastructure. This position will also support ongoing asset management related initiatives as part of continuous improvements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises project managers within the Asset Management team as well as collaborates with Public Works program area teams to coordinate and plan the Public Works’ annual 10-year state of good repair (SOGR) capital program.
  • Reviews Public Works business cases, change requests and project charters in support of capital programming.
  • Coordinates the annual updates to Public Works risk register through updated risk assessments of capital project needs collaborating with all Public Work program area teams.
  • Leads the updating of the Public Works infrastructure staging plans working with all Public Works program areas.
  • Coordinates the monitoring and reporting of Public Works Capital projects budget variances in progress to identify trends to support improved Capital programming and delivery.
  • Develops and implements process improvements related to asset management in collaboration with other staff.
  • Motivates and provides mentorship, coaching to staff, and supporting professional development goals.
  • Represents the Asset Management Group on departmental or corporate committees as required.
  • Liaise with Regional staff on data management tools to facilitate Asset Management, and state of good repair capital programming.
  • Communicates with local municipalities on the coordination of capital projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in the field of Engineering, Applied Science/Commerce Business Administration or a related field of study, as well as having one of the following: A Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Chartered Professional Accountant, (CPA), or Master of Business Administration (MBA). Asset Management Certificate or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent.
  • Five to ten (5 to 10) years of experience in capital budgeting, asset management, planning, design, and or construction of water and wastewater and or transportation infrastructure with increasing levels of responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and prepare accurate financial and data analyses within critical timelines.
  • Advanced skills in computer programs, primarily MS Excel or similar data analysis applications.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze, evaluate, conceptualize, and apply information to make recommendations.
  • Problem solving skills to identify and resolve various dynamic issues.
  • Creative resolution skills to address and resolve interdepartmental, cross-divisional, and or cross departmental competing priorities.
