Company Description Phypers Law Family and Divorce Lawyers is a dedicated family law firm focused on helping clients navigate divorces, custody matters, and other family-related disputes with care and professionalism. We are now accepting Applications for assosciate positions in Fort McMurray and in Grand Prairie. For these locations, accommodations are provided, and there is a hybrid of 3 weeks in office and one week work remote.
Role Description The Family Law Associate Lawyer will manage a caseload of family law files, including divorce, separation, parenting, custody, access, child and spousal support, and property division matters. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, providing legal advice, drafting pleadings, affidavits, agreements, and correspondence, and appearing at court conferences, hearings, and trials. The role also involves negotiating settlements, attending mediations, collaborating with other professionals when needed, and maintaining organized, accurate file management and billing records. This is a full-time hybrid position based in Lethbridge, AB, with a combination of in-office work and some work-from-home flexibility.
Qualifications
Licensed to practice law in Alberta and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta. Experience in family law, including divorce, custody, support, and property matters, or a strong demonstrated interest in developing a practice in family law. Strong legal research and writing skills, including the ability to analyze complex issues and prepare clear, persuasive documents. Effective advocacy skills for negotiations, mediations, and court appearances, with sound judgment and professionalism. Excellent client communication skills, with the ability to listen empathetically, explain options clearly, and manage expectations. Solid organizational and time management skills to handle multiple files, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small firm setting, contributing to a respectful and supportive team culture. Comfort with standard law office technology, including case management systems, document management tools, and virtual meeting platforms. Willingness to work primarily from the Lethbridge office with some remote work as appropriate; availability to attend in-person meetings and court appearances as required. Prior experience with mediation, collaborative family law, or trauma-informed practice is an asset.
