Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our highly successful water practice in Burnaby, BC. As a Structural Engineer your role is to work with minimal supervision on small to medium sized projects, and as a team member on larger projects. You will participate in the design, coordination, and specification for structural engineering systems for a variety of projects with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.
This is an office-based position and requires attendance at the Stantec Burnaby office 5 days a week.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide mentoring and informal guidance to junior level staff, may assist in assigning tasks, providing coaching, and checking work.
- Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood structures.
- Writing and editing technical reports, engineering studies, and technical specifications.
- Support construction projects with field site visits and construction observation duties.
- Coordinate design work with project team members, other disciplines, and other offices.
- Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and cost estimating
- Assist upper-level staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule
- Work on multiple projects, simultaneously
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications
- Strong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards
- Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
- Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
- Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Revit and AutoCAD software considered an asset
- Experience using structural engineering/finite element analysis software: CSI Suite of analysis programs (SAP, ETABS and SAFE) is considered a preference.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural design on buildings and industrial structures, water experience is an asset.
- Engineering consulting experience required
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil/ Structural Engineering or related field
- Registered P. Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license is required. Position will work on-site at construction locations with some office work. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
- Must be available to travel for out-of-town projects when needed.
