Position Summary The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the monthly close process, account reconciliations, complex general ledger activities, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform monthly reconciliations for multiple bank and loan accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams.
- Prepare timely and accurate month-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, including inventory, prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, payroll, and other key accounts. Ensure all supporting schedules are complete and up to date.
- Assist in monitoring departmental, project, and organizational budgets; support the preparation of monthly financial reports and management reporting packages.
- Support financial and variance analysis by identifying trends, investigating fluctuations, and recommending process improvements.
- Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns in compliance with state and local regulations.
- Assist with year-end audits and bank examinations by preparing schedules and documentation as requested by external auditors.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve and streamline accounting processes through technology and automation
- Ensure accounting records and financial reporting are maintained in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company’s internal controls.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the accounting department and organizational objectives
Supervision of Personnel
- This role will not be responsible for supervision/management of other people.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
- 2+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, or site-based environment, with demonstrated responsibility for financial reporting, variance analysis, and operational support.
- Experience with full-cycle accrual accounting within a subledger/general ledger ERP system (prefer Infor SyteLine).
- Demonstrated high level of ethical conduct, integrity, and professionalism in handling confidential financial and operational information
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), with demonstrated experience utilizing ERP and other accounting/financial systems to support reporting, analysis, and day-to-day financial operations.
- Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, and site leadership to support business decision-making
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and core accounting principles within a manufacturing or site-based environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
- High level of personal effectiveness with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced onsite environment
Preferred
- Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- CPA certification or working towards a CPA certification.
Location
- The position is a 100% on-site role in our Surrey, British Columbia (Canada) facility, but may require up to 10% travel to IEM facilities, supplier sites, compliance audits, team off-sites or conferences.
- This role is not currently open to applicants who reside in or plan to work from the state of California.
