About Strescon Limited
Established in 1963, Strescon Limited has grown to become the largest precast, pre-stressed concrete manufacturer in Eastern Canada. Its primary market covers the Atlantic Provinces and the New England region of the United States. Strescon manufactures a wide range of both architectural and structural precast/prestressed concrete products including bridge girders, wall panels, complete parking garages, hollowcore slabs, precast pile, and deck slabs. Strescon presently has two facilities: 70,000 sq. ft. in Saint John, New Brunswick and 50,000 sq. ft. in Bedford, Nova Scotia.
In addition to our engineered precast facilities for custom components, Strescon also operates a 32,000 sq. ft. facility in Saint John which manufactures standard concrete products for engineered drainage systems, such as pipe, manholes and catch basins.
Job Summary
In partnership with the estimating and sales team and in collaboration with various other departments, the Estimator is responsible for reviewing contract drawings, specifications, and other related bid documents, identifying the precast component quantities, and gathering and evaluating proposals to prepare detailed and accurate estimates. This position computes costs by analyzing labor, materials, equipment, subcontracted work as well as timeline requirements. The ideal candidate must be able to read architectural and structural contract drawings, precast shop drawings, specifications, navigate software, be detailed, and focused on the task at hand while managing priorities and deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Review bid documents (specifications, contract drawings, addendums, bid alternates, delivery dates and bid closing date)
- Prepare bid submission documents (quotation letter, various bid forms, pricing for bid alternates, schedules)
- Efficiently coordinate sending/receiving of estimating documents to sub-contractors and vendors
- Accurately prepare material take-offs and estimates in a timely manner, meeting all bid deadlines
- Prepare accurate 3D models for the precast components and supporting structure
- Utilize software to manage data and facilitate effective retrieval of information when required
- Review and assess proposed estimates, and submission documents with estimating manager
- Assist in achieving departmental goals within targeted budgets by meeting deadlines for project completion
- Effectively communicate with other departments and the plants, and focuses on solutions that optimize production and efficiency
- Represent the department and company in a professional, positive manner when liaising with internal and external customers
- Additional duties as assigned
Technical Requirements
Post-Secondary education in Civil, Architectural, Structural or Mechanical Technology or similar
Business Requirements
- Previous experience in the construction industry is an asset
- Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Previous experience with 3D modelling software is an asset
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawing is a requirement
- Strong attention to detail Exceptional time management and organizational skills
Cultural Requirements
Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with others and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
- Desire to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, customer-focused environment
