Position Summary:

Reporting to the VP, Internal Audit (IA), the Internal Audit Senior Manager plays a key role in supporting the VP, IA developing and executing the annual risk-based audit plan. This role assesses the effectiveness of first and second lines of defense in mitigating risk, while fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement across the organization.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in high-level reporting and planning, including: the annual risk-based audit plan and the quarterly audit committee report
  • Plan and execute project and team management responsibilities including review of work to ensure quality and alignment to business goals
  • Mentor and support junior auditors through continuous coaching, fostering professional growth and enhancing audit quality
  • Champion the development and maintenance of data analytics for assigned audit areas
  • Develop strong working relationships with senior non-executive management and the 2nd line’s risk and compliance teams
  • Analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of control environment; Identifying control gaps and provide practical recommendations
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify controls in place to mitigate identified risks
  • Design and perform audit procedures to evaluate design and operational effectiveness of controls
  • Document the results of audit work in accordance with Haventree Bank’s Audit Methodology and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards
  • Assess, evaluate and promote compliance to internal policies
  • Research emerging or technical subjects when required to support audits (e.g. Basel III, OSFI Guidelines, credit risk, etc.)
  • Contribute to (and where appropriate lead) wider IA initiatives and projects

Qualifications & Experience:

Degrees, Diplomas & Certifications:

  • Professional accounting and/or relevant designation (CPA, CA, CISA)
  • University degree in business, accounting or other relevant fields

Years and Range of Experience Required to Perform the Job:

  • The position requires 5-7 years’ experience in risk-based auditing with a large public accounting firm or equivalent institution and have working knowledge of the financial services/residential mortgage industry and business.
  • The position is required to work across the origination and identify risk and design effective internal controls.
  • The IA Senior Manager is required to work across the organization and champion risk-mitigation and compliance with internal policies.
  • The role requires the ability to analyze and evaluate complex financial data drawing meaningful conclusions to support internal audit assessments and decision-making.
  • Internal Contacts: This role collaborates with the below individuals to understand internal processes, communicate audit findings, and finished reports: Senior Management, Department Heads, Managers, Staff Contributors.
  • External Contacts: This role collaborates with third-party vendors and external auditors on internal process, findings, and finished reports
  • Experience in working with mortgage underwriting/servicing systems; Governance, Risk & Control (GRC) software and ERP accounting software.
  • Knowledge on key regulations and legislation affecting the residential mortgage business (e.g. OSFI, AML, Residential Mortgages - B20)
  • Nice-to-Have - Experience conducting IT audits, including assessment of application controls, cybersecurity measures, data integrity, and compliance with regulatory frameworks such as OSFI, PCI-DSS, and ISO standards.
