Job Description****Who We AreKichton Construction LP is the Fort McMurray based Heavy Civil entity within the Kichton Group of companies which has been operating since 1963. Kichton Construction LP commenced operations in 2019 as the industrial division of the Kichton Group to serve the Energy and Mining Industries throughout North America. Since inception, KCLP has grown sustainably and exponentially, starting with 30 experienced team members in 2019, to now over 400 team members and over 300 pieces of heavy equipment. KCLP is proud to continue operating alongside our Community Partner, the Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, as part of our NOHA/Kichton Joint-Venture.The Role We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Foreperson to train, lead and mentor our heavy equipment crews doing reclamation work. The Foreperson is responsible for facilitating and organizing all crews, equipment, and materials to complete work scopes in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. The ideal candidate has worked in the Fort McMurray oilsands before and has mining, industrial and heavy civil construction experience. This position is project based and reports into the General Foreman.
Location/Job Details

  • Fort McMurray, Alberta - Suncor Fort Hills.

  • 12-hour days (paid for 11.5/day) 14 days on, 7 days off. Nights & day shifts.

  • Accommodations - own room & bathroom at the new Willow camp.

  • Flights are provided out of Edmonton or Calgary to Fort MacMurray and back.

  • Bussing provided from airport to camp and back.

Compensation/Benefits

  • $45.00 to $ 47.00 per hour with OT at 1.5 x the regular rate (bi-weekly pay).

  • OT after 8 hours per day.

  • $2.00 per hour increase after 90 days subject to a successfully performance review.

  • $ 2.00 Performance Incentive Bonus after 90 days

  • 9.6% Vacation and Statutory Holiday pay on all regular hours paid out bi-weekly.

Responsibilities/Job Duties

  • Review, understand, and follow all safe work practices and procedures.

  • Lead, train and mentor employees in safe work practices.

  • Maintain regular communication with Supervisors and Project Managers regarding project processes, risks, and forecasts.

  • Ensure materials needed are ordered and available.

  • Facilitate morning toolbox talks and site/company meetings.

  • Ensure employees review, understand, and follow all company policies.

  • Coach, mentor, train and when necessary discipline employees who are not meeting performance standards or that violate company policies.

  • Complete daily documentation thoroughly, including: FLHAs, timesheets, pre/post-inspections of all tools and equipment, and any other paperwork required.

  • Report incidents, near misses, equipment damage, and hazards to Supervisors immediately.

  • Groundwork/operate equipment and work on the tools as required.

  • Represent the Company in a positive and professional manner - leading by example.

Education/Qualifications/Training

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a construction supervisory role required

  • Mining experience preferred

  • Familiar and comfortable working in a production environment.

  • A safety-first attitude.

  • An excellent communicator and a good listener.

  • Must be proficient in English, both verbally and written

  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a good driver's abstract

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test

  • CSO, BSO or OSSA Regional certification

  • Energy Safety Canada or ACSA Version: OH&S AB Legislative Awareness (Payroll Deduction Available)

  • Energy Safety Canada: Silica Awareness (Payroll Deduction Available)

  • Energy Safety Canada: Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness (Payroll Deduction Available)

  • Energy Safety Canada: Wood Buffalo Wildlife Intermediate (Payroll Deduction Available)

  • Energy Safety Canada: Hydrogen Sulfide Awareness or H2S Alive if already obtained (Payroll Deduction Available)

  • Suncor pre-requisite training – approx. 4 hours (will be sent to you as part of onboarding)

  • ACSA Worksite Investigation Basics, considered an asset

  • ACSA Leadership for Safety Excellence, considered an asset

  • Bistrainer Company Specific Training (3 courses, approx. 2-3 hours)

Kichton Contracting Ltd (KCL) has been in business since 1963 and is based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. KCL is classified as a medium sized civil earthworks contractor. Our work ranges from residential earthworks, commercial site development to industrial projects. Our services include grading design for all types of new commercial and industrial sites along with retrofitting existing sites to accommodate new site development.

Once we have satisfied the client with the design, we extend our services to provide the equipment, labour and materials necessary to complete the work. With our experience in both the civil and building construction industry we are able to provide a complete project. At KCL we strive to stay current with new industry regulations and requirements. It is our intent to become well versed in all aspects of the construction industry.

We have acquired experienced personnel and a wide range of equipment to facilitate all of the work we have completed to date. Employee safety is very important to us; we have even obtained a COR (Certification of Recognition) to show our dedication to safety standards.
