Maintenance Technician

Apex Aluminum is a state-of-the-art aluminum extrusion factory located in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. With a 170,000 square foot aluminum extrusion facility and some of the most modern equipment in its industry, Apex can offer custom extrusions, mill finish aluminum and anodized aluminum to satisfy the most demanding customer and all architectural needs.
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician will be responsible for installing new equipment, scheduling and performing regular services and maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting equipment breakdowns. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and has the following general duties and responsibilities assigned to their role.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Install new production equipment.
- Service and maintain equipment including motors, conveyor systems, and production-related equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and safety checks.
- Troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns and adjust mechanical parts using hand and machine tools.
- Fabricate parts for repairs and machine upgrades.
- Locate problems through close observation of machinery and staff practices.
- Inspect and assess the functionality of production machines.
- Source replacement parts and liaise with vendors.
- Communicate with the production team and maintain a clean work area.
- Control downtime by communicating with staff and implementing contingency measures.
- Assist with training of all new hires.
- Prepare and submit maintenance reports.
- Perform careful inventory and stock checks, placing orders for required materials and equipment.
- Attend daily meetings and schedule training workshops as required.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, or a relevant Engineering discipline.
- Mechanical knowledge of industrial machinery, including mechanical, electrical, and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programming.
- Available to work a variety of shifts (weekends and weekdays).
- Previous work experience as an industrial maintenance technician.
- Familiarity with CCOHS safety standards and regulations.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and time management skills.
- Basic computer and report writing skills.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy equipment.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and remain calm and act responsibly during emergencies.
- Willingness to work overtime if necessary.
- Driver's license and reliable vehicle required for transportation.
