About the role
About AbaData**:**
AbaData is a growing energy tech company building an integrated software platform that helps clients make better, faster decisions in the field and office. Our suite of tools supports critical workflows across pipeline integrity, field operations, regulatory compliance, equipment management, routing logistics, surface land data, and more.
We serve upstream and midstream oil & gas companies, utilities, renewables, and environmental teams helping them unlock value through real-time data, mobile-first field tools, and powerful GIS intelligence. From TRIAGE Pipeline Integrity to Field Ops, Equipment Management, and Reporting & Analytics, our platform is designed to connect teams, simplify operations, and drive measurable results.
Position Overview
We’re looking for a Business Systems Analyst to play a critical role in defining, documenting, and clarifying how our applications function. You’ll own the details, from user stories to edge cases, and help translate high-level requirements into technically sound, unambiguous specs that our developers and QA teams can act on.
You’ll work closely with developers, QA, and stakeholders to reduce ambiguity, accelerate development, and ensure technical clarity across our projects. This role is ideal for someone who has been in the trenches of enterprise software delivery, understands how APIs and data contracts work, and loves getting into the weeds, not necessarily by writing code, but by knowing enough to talk fluently with those who do.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop a deep understanding of how our software functions from a business and technical perspective.
- Translate our client’s needs into clear, technically sound requirements for our development team.
- Research and define integration approaches, for example, determining how to ingest and transform SCADA data to meet client needs.
- Serve as the go-to point of contact for the technical team, answering questions about software functionality and edge cases.
- Own and write detailed user stories with clear, executable acceptance criteria.
- Define data contracts, API request/response specifications, and validation rules.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with development teams to reduce ambiguity and keep projects moving forward.
- Act as a domain expert for internal tools and system integrations, including SCADA systems, Azure, SQL Server, and .NET applications.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Technical BA, or similar role in enterprise software environments.
- Fluent with OpenAPI, API design, and best practices for request/response structures.
- Able to produce clear, precise documentation that minimizes questions for developers and QA.
- Naturally curious. You want to understand how things work, not just check boxes.
- Strong communicator You are able to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A collaborative problem-solver who makes things easier for others by being proactive.
What We Offer:
- A competitive salary with a comprehensive benefits plan and a flexible health spending account.
- Flexible paid time off and complimentary parking.
- Career growth opportunities in an expanding company.
- Regular team building events and in-person socials with our Western Canadian offices.
- An opportunity to work alongside an exceptional team of accomplished developers and executives, including the former CEO and co-founder of GasBuddy.
