Career Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity to lead and shape enterprise solution architecture within a dynamic and forward-thinking IT environment. If you're passionate about aligning technology with business strategy and leveraging innovation, this Senior Solution Architect role is for you!

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Architecture, as a Senior Solution Architect, you will lead the development and implementation of the Enterprise Solution Architecture (ESA), ensuring it aligns with organizational goals and is effectively leveraged across projects. This unique opportunity will directly impact how millions move across the region every day.

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for designing and developing cohesive, scalable solution architectures. You will collaborate with enterprise architects specializing in applications, data, information, and technology to create integrated and future-ready solutions.

Working closely with project teams, business stakeholders, and IT staff, you will define and oversee key architecture domains and solution portfolios—such as applications, service-oriented architecture (SOA) services, and shared infrastructure. Additionally, you will develop strategic roadmaps to guide their evolution from current to future states.

In this role, you will provide architectural guidance across business, information, and technology domains, analyzing business trends and strategic changes to inform solution decisions. You will also establish foundational principles, models, and solution patterns that support enterprise-wide design consistency and innovation.

You will consult with development teams to ensure systems and infrastructure are aligned with the Enterprise Solution Architecture (ESA). You will work closely with the Project Management Office (PMO) to maintain alignment between architectural roadmaps and project plans. Additionally, you will coordinate with both business and technical teams to support implementation activities and adapt the solution architecture as needed to meet evolving project requirements.

Demonstrate behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. Help to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies.

Participate in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • These skills and knowledge are typically acquired through a university degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or the equivalent, combined with substantial, directly related experience in business or IT.

  • The ideal candidate will have multiple years of hands-on design and implementation experience in at least two IT disciplines, such as application development, network design, middleware design, servers and storage, database management, or operations management.

  • Significant practical experience with IT applications is essential, particularly in application and technical architecture, as well as in designing and implementing enterprise systems.A strong background in analysis, design, and programming is also required.

  • Candidates should possess a solid understanding of key business functions and all aspects of enterprise architecture, along with basic knowledge of financial models, budgeting, business process re-engineering principles, and information governance policies.

  • A working knowledge of service-oriented architecture (SOA), object-oriented analysis and design, client/server systems, and an understanding of the enterprise’s political landscape and how to navigate it are important.

  • A strong grasp of network and data center architecture, as well as application development methodologies, is also necessary.

  • The successful candidate will be autonomous and self-motivated, with experience in defining and executing large-scale business and IT strategies. Experience in a senior architectural role, including managing a team of architects and working with diverse stakeholders, is highly valued. Project-level experience across the full lifecycle of technology implementation and configuration, along with the ability to conduct trade-off analysis, is essential.

  • Candidates should also have experience in project solution architecture and exposure to a wide range of technologies and processing environments. Practical experience in designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based solutions is required, including familiarity with cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), deployment models (public, private, hybrid), and cloud security best practices.

  • The role demands the ability to understand both long-term strategic goals and short-term operational needs, translate business requirements into solution architecture, estimate the financial impact of ESA and solution alternatives, define multiple solution options, and quickly grasp the capabilities of emerging technologies.

  • As part of our dynamic environment, you will work with industry-leading platforms, including enterprise solutions such as SAP, MAXIMO, and TRAPEZE; advanced operational technologies like CAD/AVL vehicle systems and Automatic Train Control (ATC) systems; cloud and data platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Azure Synapse, Power BI, and Databricks; and cutting-edge AI/ML and big data tools that enable predictive analytics and intelligent decision-making.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, along with well-developed planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual abilities.

  • The candidate must have, or be able to rapidly acquire, comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and related orders, including requirements for disability accommodation and accessibility for both passengers and employees.
