Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Manager, Hardware Engineering, you will be an integral part of a very strong and vibrant hardware team that performs design, development, and validation of sophisticated printed circuit boards for Ciena’s current and next-generation Photonic Hardware platforms.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop high-quality and high-performance hardware solutions that meet rigorous quality and reliability standards.

Responsibilities

  • As part of a team, work on end-to-end design and development of complex hardware circuits packs. This includes, but is not limited to,

  • creating detailed block diagrams from high level Architecture requirements.

  • selecting components that will satisfy functional requirements while fitting within the cost, power, and real estate budgets that you have worked with cross functional teams to define.

  • performing schematic capture, assessing signal integrity and guiding PCB layout.

  • detailed hardware testing and verification.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams during the entire design process (systems architects, mechanical, software, FPGA, Operations etc.).

  • Drive continuous improvement in design practices, tools, and processes.

  • Mentored by senior engineers who can provide technical guidance during the design process.

Requirements

  • Electrical Engineering program or equivalent
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are essential
  • The candidate must have initiative, enthusiasm and a desire to learn
  • Familiarity with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and test sets) and measurement techniques would be beneficial
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering fundamentals including R/C/L/Diode/FET
  • Ability to design and test digital interfaces such as: I2C/PMBus, SPI, JTAG, PCIe, Ethernet

Assets

  • Excellent communication, documentation, interpersonal and team-working skills
  • Experience designing and debugging hardware
  • Experience with Cadence PCB schematic capture and layout tools
  • Interest in Photonic systems including Lasers, Photodiodes and Amplifiers
  • Some experience in programming using languages such as Matlab or others

Compensation : The annual pay range for this position is $62,600 - $100,000 CAD

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
