Full time Tuxedo Villa - R****ecreation Aide position. Hours include weekends, days, and evening shifts.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, implement and evaluate both individual & group recreation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Program Manager.
- Set up and clean activity area and transport residents to and from programs. Monitor the behavior and condition of residents during programs, and report any significant changes to the Program Manager and Nursing staff as appropriate.
- Participate in development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Program Manager.
- Develop and maintain resident records/documentation according to department policy.
- Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.
Qualifications
- Proof of successful completion of an approved Recreation &/or Gerontology Degree or Diploma
- Knowledge and experience working with geriatric population especially those with cognitive impairment/dementia
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and other resident assessments
- Ability to work independently & as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and manage time effectively
- Ability to plan, implement & evaluate resident focused recreation programs and one to one interventions
- Ability to demonstrate empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care for residents
- Ability to manage volunteers during evening & weekend programming
- Able to handle stress associated with regular dealings with long term care residents
- Able to perform physical duties as required (lifting/pushing for programming set up/clean up and transporting residents)
- Minimum one year experience working in Long Term Care an asset
