Salary : Depends on skills and experience. The salary range for this role is $78,000- $85,000 per year.

Role Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Properties, as Associate Director of Risk and Asset Management at Scouts Canada, you will play a critical part in ensuring our national property portfolio is safe, sustainable, and aligned with our mission. By operationalizing strategies for capital investment, divestment, and maintenance, the Associate Director helps optimize the usage, revenue, and program quality of Scout camps and properties. They hold accountability for identifying and mitigating material risks, driving regulatory compliance, and continuously improving safety practices across all sites. With responsibility for managing substantial project budgets and supporting budgetary compliance at the individual camp level, the role ensures resources are used effectively and transparently. Acting as a deputy to the Director and a collaborative partner to volunteers, committees, and senior staff, the Associate Director ensures Scouts Canada’s properties are not only well-managed assets, but trusted, secure environments where young people can learn, grow, and thrive.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Portfolio:

·       Asset Management: Operationalize strategies to optimize Scouts Canadas property portfolio (by way of revenue, usage and program quality) through capital investment/ divestment.

·        Risk Management: Operationalize strategies to continuously improve safety practice and regulatory compliance, with accountability for identifying, recording and ensuring mitigating actions are in place for all material risks across Scouts Canadas property portfolio.

·        Pipeline Engagement: Lead stakeholder engagement strategy to provide a transparent process of properties through the property pipeline.

Finance and Revenue: 

·       Finance: Effectively manage and report on $1-$10M project budgets, ensuring budgetary compliance by individual camps, and collaborating with senior colleagues to ensure value for money.

·        Revenue: Collaborate with fundraising colleagues so they can secure and manage externally funded partnerships.

Leadership and Management:

·       Deputy Director: Deputize for your manager during absences.

·        Externality: Represent the organization to external stakeholders, agents, consultants and agencies.

·        Leadership: Collaborate with Director-level colleagues to ensure the success of Scouts Canada's work.

·        People: Create and drive strategies to continuously improve the performance of staff within your team, increase the satisfaction of high-performing staff with their role, and take swift action where performance is below expectations.

·        Volunteers: Continuously improve partnerships between staff and volunteers, including Council Key 3s, Camp Committees and Property Societies.

·        Committees: Form excellent relationships with members of any relevant committees and provide clear and concise advice and guidance.

·        Project Management: Ensure all projects within the team align with our Project Management framework, taking personal accountability for addressing underperformance in Scope, Timeline or Budget.

·       Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Job-Specific Competencies:

·  3-5 years of experience with asset management, real estate, and strategic planning

·       3-5 years of stakeholder management experience

·       Nonprofit and camp operation experience considered an asset

·       Relevant bachelor’s degree or combination of relevant education and experience

·       Business insight: Knows how asset management works and how to build creative partnerships. Keeps up with current and future policies, practices and trends in the marketplace

·        Manages complexity : Asks the right questions to accurately analyze situations, acquires data from multiple and diverse sources when solving problems, uncovers root causes to difficult problems and evaluates pros and cons, risks and benefits of different solution options.

·       Component in understanding and interpreting federal legislation and bylaws.

·       Proficient with Microsoft 365 and component in learning additional software (ex. PowerBI, SmartSheets)

Working Conditions:

·       Works remotely at home-based office.

·       Regular working hours – some evening or weekend work may be required.

·       Some travel may be required depending on operational needs (< 5%)

·       Clear PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) are required before the start date.

·       Mandatory training requirement.

Physical Demands:

·       Sitting at a computer for extended periods of time
