Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Policy
SPG is seeking a strategic and collaborative Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Policy to lead the development, management, and implementation of new initiatives and policy engagement activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing SPG’s priorities through research, analysis, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy at the provincial and national levels.
This role involves managing strategic projects, providing policy leadership, and engaging with government, industry organizations, and other stakeholders to promote policies that benefit Saskatchewan pulse growers.
Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Policy’s primary responsibilities will include to:
- Develop and manage projects related to new SPG initiatives, including engaging contractors, coordinating external advisors, conducting analysis, and developing recommendations.
- Engage with stakeholders, other industry groups and governments to keep up to date on emerging issues, regulatory topics and perspectives of others.
- Lead SPG’s input to national and provincial groups on policy and regulatory issues of priority to SPG.
- Represent SPG in discussions with external groups, contributing to strategy, analysis, and advocacy on shared policy topics and working collaboratively to find areas of consensus.
- Provide policy briefings, advice, and recommendations to the Executive Director and Leadership Team.
- Collaborate with Communications colleagues to ensure effective and accurate communication of SPG’s policy positions and initiatives.
Qualifications include:
- Post Secondary degree in business, public policy, economics, or political science.
- Three years of strategy, policy, or advocacy experience.
- Generalist with strong analytical and project management capabilities.
- External engagement mindset – demonstrated ability to engage with external groups and subject matter experts on a wide range of topics.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (verbal & written).
- Highly organized with critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, able to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once.
- Team player with ability to collaborate well with internal and external colleagues.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to work well under pressure and perform under fast paced situations.
Location: SPG’s Saskatoon office. Other locations could be considered for the right candidate.
