A continuing full time (1.0) Learning Assistance Resource Teacher is required by School District #49 (Central Coast), the assignment will be at Sir Alexander Mackenzie School effective September 1, 2026. Interested teachers who are a member or who are eligible to become a member of the College of Teachers are invited to apply. School District 49 (Central Cost) offers one of the highest salaries in the province, together with an allowance for moving expenses and rental subsidy.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Specialized training in inclusive education
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to support the learning of students with a variety of needs
- Knowledge of effective research-based teaching strategies and formative assessment techniques
- Ability/experience to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, administration and interpretation of norm-referenced assessment instruments, curriculum- based assessments, and diagnostic teaching methods
- Ability to implement extensive Individual Education Programs (IEP's) (detailing adaptations and modifications) in consultation with classroom teachers, parents, students and district resource personnel
- Ability/experience to support students designated with Chronic Health
- Training and experience in working with ELL/ESD students and files
- Ability to support teachers within their classrooms to create inclusive learning environments
- Wide range of teaching and management strategies
- Knowledge of numeracy and literacy curriculum in K-12
- Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with diverse needs
- Ability/expertise to work with students either individually or in small groups or in a classroom setting
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaborative and organizational skills
- Advocacy for and empathy with students with diverse needs
- Ability to work with students experiencing learning and/or behavioral challenges
- Ability/expertise to collaborate with classroom teachers and team-teach when warranted to support the learning of diverse needs students
- Willingness to work collaboratively with the inclusive education departments/teams and school administration
- Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
- Knowledge of Indigenous World View and understanding
- A team approach to school planning
- Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills and proven ability to work co- operatively and effectively with other educators in a collegial team setting
- A strong commitment to positive and consistent engagement and communication with parents and other stakeholders
- A Master of Education (M.Ed.) is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
This position may include other assigned duties.
The annual salary range for this position is $72,983 to $126,238 (which includes retention & recruitment allowance). Moving expenses up to $1,200 as well as rental subsidy up to $2,000 available to eligible candidates.
