Registered Radiation Therapist
Location: Calgary, AB
Western Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre is welcoming a Radiation Therapist to join our collaborative and growing veterinary oncology team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your human healthcare training in a dynamic veterinary setting, working alongside specialists in veterinary oncology to deliver advanced radiation therapy to animal patients.
While previous veterinary experience is not required, an openness to learning and adapting your skills to a new environment is essential. We’ll provide training and support as you transition into the veterinary field.
- Operate and maintain linear accelerator (LINAC) and associated radiation therapy equipment.
- Collaborate with veterinary oncology team members to deliver high-quality radiation therapy to animal patients (dogs and cats primarily).
- Apply your knowledge of treatment planning, dosimetry, patient positioning, and immobilization techniques adapted for animal patients.
- Participate in daily QA checks and routine machine maintenance.
- Assist in ensuring radiation safety protocols are followed for both staff and patients.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to problem-solve or the ability to ask clarifying questions to help you find solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills in working with your colleagues and pet parents.
- Passion to learn more within the role.
- A love for all companion animals!!
Who You Are
- A Registered Radiation Therapist (RTT) in good standing with a provincial licensing body.
- Experienced in the planning and delivery of external beam radiation therapy.
- Comfortable working in a clinical team and learning new procedures.
- Compassionate and adaptable — animals aren’t humans, but they still deserve excellent care.
- Open to gaining experience in animal behaviour, handling (training provided), and veterinary protocols.
