We are seeking an accomplished Enterprise Data Architect to join our Enterprise Architecture team for a 12-month contractual engagement with a possibility of extension and will be reporting to the Vice President, Technology Services and Operations. This pivotal leadership position encompasses the design and implementation of robust data architecture practices, alongside the leadership of our data governance program. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in data architecture, data modeling, and the application of data governance best practices. A profound comprehension of financial services data, capital markets products, and regulatory mandates is also imperative. The successful candidate will function as a hands-on expert, tasked with enhancing our data maturity, cultivating a data-informed decision-making paradigm, and establishing the foundational architectures requisite for this transformation.

This role is hybrid (2 - 3 days/week in the office) - based in Toronto, ON

Key Accountabilities:

  • Enterprise Data Architecture Roadmap: A documented 2-3 year roadmap outlining the future state of the data architecture, that supports business objectives, improves data quality, and enhances analytical capabilities. This includes defining data models, data flows, and integration patterns detailing key projects, technology stack, and implementation timelines.
  • Architect and Design: Provide architectural leadership and guidance for data-related projects. Design detailed architectural blueprints for key data platforms, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Data Quality Program: Initiate and define the data quality program with measurable metrics for key data domains (e.g., client, product, trade data).
  • Improve Data Maturity: Assess the current state of data maturity and develop a plan to advance it across the organization. This involves moving from ad-hoc data usage to a more structured, managed, and optimized approach.
  • Lead Data Governance: Champion the data governance practice. This involves maintaining and enhancing the policies, standards, and processes for data quality, security, and stewardship. You'll be responsible for maturing the data governance framework and engaging the data governance council and working group.
  • Data Catalog Implementation: Oversee the implementation of a functioning enterprise-wide data catalog that provides a single source of truth for data assets, metadata, data lineage.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with business leaders, IT teams, and data stewards to understand data needs, resolve data-related issues, ensure alignment, and promote the adoption of data governance and architectural standards.
  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and recommend new data technologies and tools that align with our strategic goals.
  • Training and Handover: Documentation and knowledge transfer to internal teams to ensure the sustainability of the data architecture and governance practices after the contract concludes.

Must Have(s):

  • Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in data architecture roles, with at least 5 years in the financial services industry, specifically capital markets is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Robust collaboration and networking capabilities, with the demonstrated aptitude to effectively engage with senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional judgment in decision-making and prioritization.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing complex data solutions for trading and capital markets business with compliance to risk and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience with data governance frameworks, data quality management, and metadata management.
  • Proficiency with database technologies (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, Data Bricks) and big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).

Nice to Have(s):

  • Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Knowledge of capital markets products, trading lifecycle, and market data
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the Canadian financial services sector
