Technical Excellence. Complex Detailing. Influence the Firm's Technical Future.
About The Firm
Our client is an established Vancouver-based architectural practice with a collaborative studio culture and a strong portfolio of work across British Columbia. The firm delivers a diverse mix of projects spanning residential, commercial, institutional, mixed-use, and community developments, with a focus on thoughtful, contemporary design and long-term client relationships.
Known for its team-oriented environment and commitment to high-quality project delivery, the firm encourages collaboration throughout every stage of the design and construction process. Their steady pipeline of work includes projects of varying scales and complexity, providing staff with the opportunity to contribute to a broad range of architectural work.
As the firm continues to grow, they are looking to add an experienced Senior Architectural Technologist or Technical Architect with exceptional technical expertise who enjoys solving complex construction challenges and producing outstanding construction documentation. This individual will play an integral role in strengthening the firm's technical capabilities while helping establish a dedicated technical documentation team that will support projects across the practice.
Why Join This Team?
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced technical professional who wants to become one of the firm's technical leaders.
Whether you're a Senior Architectural Technologist or a Technical Architect, you'll have the opportunity to focus on what you do best: developing highly coordinated construction documentation, solving complex technical challenges, and producing exceptional detailing across a diverse range of architectural projects.
Working alongside experienced architects and project teams, you'll help elevate the firm's technical standards while contributing to projects of varying scale and complexity. Your knowledge and expertise will be highly valued as you become a key technical resource within the office and help shape the future of a growing technical documentation team.
The firm offers a collaborative, design-focused culture, a hybrid work environment, excellent long-term stability, and genuine opportunities to make a lasting impact on both projects and the continued growth of the practice.
The Role
As a Senior Architectural Technologist or Technical Architect, you'll play a key role in the technical delivery of architectural projects, with your primary focus being construction documentation, technical detailing, and drawing coordination.
This position is ideal for someone who genuinely enjoys the technical side of architecture and takes pride in producing coordinated, highly detailed, and technically sound construction documents. Rather than focusing on client management or project leadership, you'll serve as one of the firm's senior technical specialists, providing expertise that supports project teams from design development through construction.
The firm is actively building a dedicated technical documentation team, and this position will serve as one of its foundational members. While project assignments will vary, the ideal candidate will bring extensive experience detailing both small and large architectural projects, with institutional project experience being highly preferred.
Responsibilities
Lead the preparation of high-quality construction documentation using Revit. Develop technical details and building assemblies for both small and large architectural projects. Produce accurate, coordinated, and comprehensive construction drawing packages throughout all phases of project delivery. Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and specialty consultants. Identify and resolve coordination issues before construction. Review drawing packages for technical accuracy, constructability, and quality. Support projects through permit, tender, and construction phases. Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and provide technical support during construction administration as required. Collaborate closely with architects and project teams to ensure technical excellence across all project deliverables. Mentor junior team members by providing guidance on detailing, documentation standards, consultant coordination, and best practices. Contribute to the ongoing development of office technical standards, quality control procedures, and documentation processes. Help establish and strengthen the firm's dedicated technical documentation team.
What We're Looking For
10+ years of experience as a Senior Architectural Technologist, Technical Architect, or in a similar senior technical role. Diploma or Degree in Architectural Technology, Architecture, or a related discipline. Registration as an Architect is considered an asset but is not required. Advanced proficiency in Revit with extensive experience producing construction documentation. Demonstrated expertise in technical detailing across both small and large architectural projects. Strong institutional project experience is highly preferred. Extensive knowledge of building envelope assemblies, building systems, construction methodologies, materials, and constructability. Thorough understanding of the BC Building Code, Vancouver Building By-law, and local construction practices. Proven ability to produce highly coordinated and technically accurate construction drawing packages. Extensive experience coordinating multidisciplinary consultants. Strong understanding of projects from design development through construction. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Passion for mentoring junior staff and sharing technical knowledge. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently delivering high-quality work.
What's Offered
Competitive salary, negotiable based on experience. Hybrid work environment. Comprehensive benefits package. Professional development and continuing education support. Opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across multiple sectors. Collaborative, supportive, and design-focused studio environment. Stable workload with a healthy pipeline of projects. Opportunity to become a key technical leader and help shape the future of the firm's technical documentation team.
If you're an experienced Senior Architectural Technologist or Technical Architect who is passionate about construction documentation, technical detailing, and delivering exceptional drawing packages, this is an outstanding opportunity to join a respected Vancouver architectural practice where your expertise will have a lasting impact on the firm's continued growth and technical excellence.
