About the role
The Counselling department is looking for a Clinical Counsellor and Group Facilitator to join our team. This position supports individuals and families who are seeking counselling services to improve their mental health due to experiences of family violence, abuse and trauma. This role is responsible for providing individualized counselling services and facilitating group counselling programs for the prevention and treatment of domestic violence.
This is a full-time temporary position, ending December 2026. This role works Monday to Friday and requires flexibility to work some evenings. This role is also eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Provide individualized, evidenced-based services to individuals and families struggling with their mental health; support them in developing knowledge and skills that promote healthy relationships; teach mindfulness, emotion management, problem-solving and distress tolerance.
- Deliver client-centered and trauma informed therapeutic services using multiple modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy.
- Maintain a consistent caseload of clients.
- Complete intakes and assessments; develop and evaluate treatment plans and therapeutic processes over the course of 16 weekly counselling sessions.
- Be responsive to client needs and provide assessments, safety planning and crisis management as needed.
- Engage with internal and external partners as required for collaboration and client service needs; provide resources, support and community referrals as needed.
- Facilitate group programs, for example programs that teach skills related to mindfulness and healthy relationships; provide evidence-based interventions to the assigned group.
- Maintain accurate client records and update progress notes immediately upon session completion.
- Support with required assessments and surveys.
- Actively participate in clinical supervision; attend and contribute to team meetings.
- Integrate equity, diversity and inclusion principles into one’s role, work, and engagement with others, as aligned with YW Calgary’s strategy and values.
- Understand YW Calgary’s Health, Safety and Wellness (HS&W) policies, practices and protocols; ensure work is performed safely.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (clinical), Psychology, Counselling Psychology, or related field.
- Registration with appropriate professional body (recognized under the Health Professions Act) is required.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with individuals and families.
- Experience facilitating group programs.
- Working knowledge of the impacts of abuse, violence, and trauma on people across the lifespan; violence- and abuse-recovery; crisis intervention; and problematic substance use and its intersection with mental health and traumatic stress.
- Training and experience in treatment options such as CBT, DBT, mind/body therapies, and post-modern platforms such as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, strength base approach, and process therapy preferred.
- ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and CPR/First Aid Certification required upon 6 months of employment.
- Flexibility in hours with the ability to work some evenings.
