Job Overview The Director, Maintenance is responsible for building a high-performance technical team that uses proactive methods to ensure that production lines are capable and ready to run to company standards across all Give & Go facilities. The role will also coordinate the gathering and prioritizing of information that will be used to form maintenance budgets and then create systems with the maintenance team to manage spending within the budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide input to and contributes to the execution of the company’s long-term plan (LTP) within the Maintenance department
- Lead the MRO purchasing group to create an optimized parts sourcing strategy, such as by creating strategic vendor relationships, criteria for purchasing spare parts, effective and efficient parts storage systems and negotiating favourable pricing and terms with our vendors.
- Actively live and role model our Leadership competencies by holding self and function (including all direct report ‘people leaders’) accountable for creating a positive work environment and culture through administration of our People Processes and Tools.
- Knowledgeable on the latest maintenance technologies and methods that may help the company to meet its goals by encouraging the team to attend trade shows, engage vendors, research on the internet and to encourage curiosity in general.
- Implement maintenance metrics, OEE for example, on all production lines and ensure that there is a timely review of the metrics and aggressive follow up on deviations from the target.
- Develop systems that are proactive or preventative in nature that make up the majority of the day to day maintenance activities.
- Focus on reducing reactive responses to minimize unplanned downtime, as well as managing the implementation of new automation and process technology
- Lead the effort to implement an effective computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for work and asset management.
- Ensure all work performed by or on behalf of the company complies with company policies, procedures and with all governing practices, codes and regulations.
- Maintain overall responsibility for the health and safety policy/program adherence at facility
- Ensure that all established health & safety policies are administered/enforced in all areas of the facility
- Ensures food safety and food quality programs and procedures and applicable requirements of the SQF system is fully implemented and are followed at all times
Recipe For Success
- Completion of university degree in Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 5 years working in or supporting a maintenance team or certified trades person
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience leading a maintenance or technical department with hand on experience implementing and using computerized maintenance systems (CMMS)
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate
- Holding a valid Ontario Millwright or Electrical License
- Successful track record of implementing continuous improvement related to maintenance systems and teams. Previous experience using TPM and RCM will be considered and asset.
- An excellent problem solver with strong troubleshooting skills
- Advanced working knowledge on mechanical/electrical systems and components; including, but not limited to, Pneumatic, Hydraulic, Pumps, Gear Boxes, Power Transmission, Material Handling, Sensor, Transmitters, DC and AC circuits, Transformers, Power and Energy, Arc Flash
- Advanced Working knowledge and experience on Automation; Industrial Process and Control system; PLC; Measuring Devices; Instrumentation; Robotic Application; Bulk Handling System
- Advanced working knowledge and experience on Facility Maintenance (Roof, Dock, plumbing, ...) and Plant Equipment (Boiler, Air Compressors, Ammonia/Freon/Glycol Refrigeration, HVAC, Ventilation, Cooling Tower, Condenser, Back flow preventer, Sprinkler and Fire Extinguisher, Wastewater System, …)
- Project management skill with capability of scoping the work and work break down analysis
- Strength to stay on top of the Breakdown/downtime or any other issue until being resolved (initiate RCA)
- Planning, scheduling & assigning ability while well experienced in defining priorities, required skills & resources
- Computer Savvy, hold practical knowledge on CMMS and Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, Power point)
- Multitasked in a fast-paced environment with lots of change in direction bases business requirement
- Possesses an interest in and desire for additional challenges and responsibilities
- Holding strong analytical, interpersonal, organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills
