About the role

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Large Animal Internal Medicine in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, and who have training and experience in large animal medicine, including in-house primary care and referral cases. The Large Animal Internal Medicine team provides services for equine as well as food and fiber animals. This teacher-scholar position is a 50% appointment in clinical teaching and service, with out-of-hours service currently shared with two other faculty members. Additional teaching responsibilities include the delivery of didactic lectures to the DVM undergraduate students; supervision of graduate students; and formalized training and supervision of interns and residents. The successful applicant must be able to communicate effectively, work collegially, and collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds

The Veterinary Medical Centre at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine is a state-of-the-art facility serving western Canada as an AVMA and AAHA accredited hospital and referral centre. The advanced imaging equipment includes a 320 detector row Toshiba Aquilion One CT scanner, Millennium MPR/MPS Gamma Camera with Genie AcQ software, Philips BV Pulsera C-arm Fluoroscope, 2 Toshiba Aplio 300, 4 Sound DR systems. MRI technology includes in-house Siemens Harmony 1.5 Tesla MRI and standing equine MRI in the Ryan-Dube Equine Performance Centre which also has a high-speed treadmill and an over-the-ground endoscope.

The WCVM is western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine. It is part of a comprehensive academic health sciences group on the university campus, with access to facilities including the Canadian Light Source and the Biomedical Beamline and Saskatchewan Centre for Cyclotron Sciences. Candidates must have a DVM degree or equivalent, an advanced postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD), and be a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Non-boarded candidates may be considered provided that they have completed an ACVIM registered residency program. Previous academic experience is desirable, particularly in the field of equine medicine. Due to the nature of the large animal medicine service, ability to provide service to production animals (e.g., cattle, small ruminants) is essential. Applicants must have a proven commitment to high quality teaching and patient care. Applicants should have demonstrated an ability to succeed in a collaborative clinical and teaching environment. Candidates must have an interest in scholarly activity as evidenced by holding research grants, supervising postgraduate students, and a publication record. Excellent communication skills and teaching experience are required.

Salary bands for this position for the 2025-2026 academic year are as follows:

Assistant Professor: $110,489 to $131,909; Associate Professor: $131,909 to $153,329; and Professor $153,329 to $178,319
