Patient Care Manager, Perioperative services
About the role
Job Description The Patient Care Manager, Perioperative services will be responsible for the human and financial resources of the Peri-operative Services department and Pre assessment clinic at Richmond Hill site (MRRH), while meeting the departmental and corporate strategic priorities. This role will provide strategic development and administrative leadership in a program management model, collaboratively with the Clinical Director and Medical Director.
The Perioperative Patient Care Manager will work with clinical and program leaders to ensure activities and programs are consistent with Mackenzie Health’s goals/objectives and that efficient/effective administrative and clinical practices are provided. The primary responsibilities include: collaborating with leadership teams to ensure effective coordination of efforts for optimal patient care; providing exceptional and visionary leadership in the development of program, organizational and financial plans; liaising and collaborating with internal and external professionals and stakeholders to ensure practice standards are aligned and integrated across and within the Program or Service, establishing and representing the global overview of the Program or Service through sound and influential decision-making and achievement of the strategic and operational plans; performing other duties consistent to the job classification. The Perioperative Patient Care Manager is responsible to the Program Director for budget and operational responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall organization and leadership of the Perioperative surgical program at MRRH including patient care delivery, operational planning, HR development, financial management, quality management and education and research. Provides leadership in the definition of strategic direction and ensures excellence in patient care and service delivery through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring and risk avoidance to the patients and the organization.
- Provides leadership to an interprofessional team of healthcare professionals in collaboration with the Clinical Director. Identifies and develops partnerships with referring and community agencies.
- Participates as a member of the program team, facilitating program planning, goal setting, evaluation and assisting in the management of the fiscal, human and material resources assigned to the program, as well as establishing standards and development and delivery of program to patients and clients.
- Ensures that all aspects of inpatients and outpatient care and services within the program are consistent with the Program’s goals and objectives and with the needs of the client group being served.
- Responsible for enhancing the interprofessional collaboration throughout the continuum of patient care.
- Work collaborative with physician leaders in ensuring optimal utilization of peri operative services
Qualifications
- Regulated Health Professional with Baccalaureate Degree required
- Master’s level preparation in Health or Business Management or equivalent preferred.
- Management experience of at least 3 years in middle level management.
- Progressive leadership experience in quality, resource and utilization management and planning, effective communication and achievement.
- Demonstrated significant experience in a leadership role and leadership competencies consistent with position level.
- Superior interpersonal, change management, team building, communication and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to initiate and lead change effectively.
- Superior financial and statistical management abilities; including the ability to assess, interpret and project budgetary needs.
- Demonstrated program planning and evaluation skills.
- Ability to make quick effective decisions in the organization and functioning of the area of service
- Ability to discern relevant information to make effective judgments and decisions.
- Ongoing Professional Development.
- Ability to work with all health disciplines to achieve best practices.
- Possess team building, creative thinking and ability to function effectively during periods of rapid change and transition.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, analytical, teamwork, leadership skills and conflict resolution skills.
- Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Demonstrates excellence in written and oral communication.
- Communicates effectively with the multidisciplinary team and external areas using timely, appropriate written, verbal and non-verbal means.
- Proven attendance record.
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
