Position Overview At Food World Supermarket , our 176,000 sq feet store will aim to provide quality products to our customers while maintain strong supplier relationships and efficient procurement processes. We are committed to sourcing products responsibly, staying informed on market trends, and supporting a diverse product assortment .
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Buyer to manage procurement for our store. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and negotiation skills, strong supplier management experience, and a proven track record in buying and inventory planning.
The grocery buyer will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing products for retail or wholesale establishments to sell to consumers.
They will act as the bridge between internal sales goals and external suppliers, ensuring that the store has high-quality, desirable merchandise at competitive prices.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Sourcing & Selection: Identify new products and suppliers through market research, trade shows, and industry reports.
- Vendor Management & Negotiation: Establish relationships with new and existing suppliers to negotiate pricing, discount terms, and delivery schedules.
- Inventory & Demand Management: Monitor stock levels, forecast demand based on sales trends, and coordinate with warehouses to manage inventory flow.
- Pricing & Profitability: Analyze costs and margins to set competitive retail prices while meeting profit targets.
- Quality Control: Inspect incoming goods to ensure they meet quality and safety standards, resolving any issues with damaged or incorrect shipments.
- Administrative Tasks: Manage purchase orders (POs), authorize invoice payments, and maintain accurate inventory records in POS systems.
Required Skills And Qualifications
- Analytical Thinking: The ability to interpret sales data and market trends to make informed buying decisions.
- Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to reconcile differences and secure favorable terms with vendors.
- Industry Knowledge: Understanding of specific food categories (e.g., produce, ethnic groceries) and consumer preferences.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with inventory management software (e.g., SAP, JDA, Produce Pro), Microsoft Excel, and POS systems.
- Education: Typically a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field, though relevant industry experience may be substituted
