Temporary K-12 Learning Support Services Consultant – Special Education Focus

The temporary K-12 Learning Support Services position is available October 6, 2025. This position will receive a responsibility allowance as per the appropriate Collective Agreement. The end date is subject to change, however, this assignment will not extend beyond the end of the current school year.

As a Learning Support Services Consultant, your primary focus will be on advancing special education program outcomes and promoting inclusive learning environments. This role involves supporting educators, fostering student achievement, and championing the needs of diverse learners. A dedication to collaborative partnerships, instructional excellence, and the integration of Catholic values in education is essential for fostering equitable learning experiences and ensuring the well-being of all students.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Education, the temporary K-12 Learning Support Services Consultant will:

  • Collaborate with school and system personnel to ensure that the special education needs of students are met according to ministry standards, policies, and regulations.

  • Consult with principals and teachers to facilitate the integration of exceptional students within classroom programming.

  • Coordinate the transition to and from specialized education programs withing the SCDSB

  • Collaborate with SERTs, Principals and others to support special education program delivery and services throughout the system.

  • Coordinate the identification of exceptional students through IPRC.

  • Enhance student learning by modeling evidence-based instructional strategies in classrooms and supporting SERTs through job-embedded professional development, in accordance with relevant Ministry Policy Program memorandum and other relevant policy guidelines.

  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, and evaluation of professional development initiatives to support effective teaching and learning using a Universal Design and Differentiated Instruction model (Learning for All, JK-12).

  • Co-lead the implementation of a Tiered model of intervention including the collection and analysis of system level screening and diagnostic information to inform next steps for students.

  • Support the professional development of school administrators, SERTs, EAs and other personnel on issues related to Special Education including the identification and placement of exceptional students.

  • Attend meetings such as Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC), complex Initial IPRC meetings, in-school meetings, community agency meetings and student transition meetings as required.

  • Oversee the requests for SEA equipment and support the deployment of devices to ensure that students can use the technology to accommodate their learning needs and access the Ontario curriculum

  • Support educators in embedding a strong Catholic perspective into curriculum initiatives by modeling effective planning and implementation.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship as part of the New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP).

  • Provide direct support to students in classrooms to enhance learning and model effective instructional strategies.

  • Champion equity and inclusive education initiatives across the system.

  • Promote innovation and excellence in teaching and learning across the K-12 continuum. Perform other duties as assigned to support system-wide goals.

Qualifications:

  • Must be qualified in three (3) divisions.

  • Additional qualification(s) in Special Education.

  • Must possess a Specialist in an area related to this assignment.

Other Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of the ways that students with special needs can access Ontario Curriculum expectations from Grade 1 to 12.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage, inspire, and build strong relationships.

  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of Ministry initiatives, directives and related special education legislation.

  • Proven leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to influence and motivate teams, resolve conflicts, and foster enthusiasm for progressive change.

  • Experience in planning, facilitating, and delivering professional learning for educators.

  • Strong understanding and application of differentiated instruction (DI) and universal design for learning (UDL).

  • Excellent collaboration, coordination, coaching, and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in integrating technology to enhance teaching, learning, and professional development.

  • Deep understanding of cross-curricular connections and their impact on student learning.

  • Experience leading school- or board-level initiatives is an asset.

  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and adaptability in responding to evolving educational needs.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel as required.
