The Ministry of the Solicitor General is seeking a dynamic Deputy Director, Basic Constable & Special Constable Training to lead province-wide transformational change in police training and development. The Ontario Police College (OPC), located in Aylmer, is the province's premier training facility for police professionals, operated by the Ministry of the Solicitor General. It delivers evidence-based, innovative training programs that reflect the needs of Ontario's diverse communities. The College's flagship offering is the Basic Constable Training (BCT) program—a mandatory 13-week course for all newly hired police officers in Ontario. BCT covers federal and provincial law, human rights, ethics, mental health response, use-of-force, firearms, and officer safety, with specialized instruction on systemic racism and Indigenous policing. In recent years, the program has expanded to accommodate more recruits and eliminate tuition fees, supporting recruitment in smaller and First Nation communities. OPC also provides Special Constable Training, tailored to roles in transit, education, and other public sectors, ensuring consistent standards in legal authority, situational response, and public safety.

Deliver on Business Goals and Priorities
Your leadership will be crucial in guiding the team towards the achievement of their business goals. As the Deputy Director, you will:
- Provide leadership in the strategic business /program/service planning including the deployment of resources (human and financial) to deliver programs and services.
- Manage the delivery of mandatory training programs, standards, and related programs, products and advisory services, ensuring that legislative and program requirements are met and enforced.
- Provide the vision and leadership in change management to advance the development and implementation of a province-wide training systems
- Manage, motivate and coach management and staff involved in the delivery of police training both at the recruit and senior officer levels.
- Lead consultations with key policing sector provincial partners and stakeholders to discuss issues, identify training providers, elicit input to design/redesign of training programs and standards, and negotiate the creation/reinforcement of specific education /skills training programs/systems.
- Oversee and manage the development of police training strategies, delivery mechanisms, client-based service delivery models and agreements, and training standards for curriculum content.

Technical Expertise:
- You demonstrate knowledge of adult education/training methodologies, principles and practices, including needs assessment, program design, training system strategies and delivery methods, and emerging trends, methodologies and principles in the field, to provide strategic expertise and leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive ministry/province wide training system, standards and standardized training certification program in the field of policing.
