JOB SUMMARY:
The Clinical Assistant, as a member of the Waterloo Regional Cancer Centre team, will provide direct and indirect support to professional and clerical staff to facilitate the delivery of quality patient care.
The duties will include Clinical Support, such as assisting patients with basic personal needs, transporting patients by wheel chair and stretcher, escorting patients into exam rooms and treatment areas, stocking exam rooms and treatment areas, taking the patient’s vital signs, height and weight and documenting the care given accordingly. Contribute to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Successful completion of an approved Health Care Aide Program or Personal Support Worker Diploma/Certification from a recognized program or completion of a 1st year nursing program (BScN or Practical Nurse) from an accredited college or university.
· CPR certificate at the Heart Saver Level
· Previous experience in assisting patients with basic personal care needed
· Ability to empathize with patients and family members
· Previous experience with oncology/palliative patients preferred
· Completion of Fundamentals of Palliative care level 1 preferred
· Responsible, energetic individual with above average ability to prioritize and organize in a busy environment
· Demonstrated ability to follow through with requests
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment
· Capable of working independently and able to take direction
· Knowledge of principles of medical asepsis and universal precautions
· Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
· Willing to work flexible hours
· Good attendance record
