Mount Royal University Cougars Athletics and Recreation takes an inclusive, student-centered approach in offering groups and individuals opportunities to bolster their health and wellness through a wide range of programming and activities ranging from beginner sports enthusiast to our eight Cougars varsity athletic programs.
About the Role
Reporting to the Aquatic Centre Supervisor and Coordinator, the Instructor Tier III provides all participants with safe, fun, professional-led courses. They must do so following Lifesaving and CAR standards.
Responsibilities
1. Instruction and Program Delivery (75%)
- Plan, organize, and deliver programs in accordance with CAR and Lifesaving Society standards.
- Demonstrate proper techniques effectively for participants of varying skill levels.
- Adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Evaluate participant performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain a safe learning environment by enforcing facility rules, modeling professionalism, and ensuring proper use of equipment.
- Ensure the safety of all participants during instructional sessions through vigilant supervision, risk assessment, and proactive intervention.
2. Customer Service and Public Relations (10%)
- Foster positive relationships with participants through clear communication and a professional demeanor.
- Address participant questions and concerns promptly and professionally.
- Consult Aquatic Leadership Programmer and Lifesaving Society as needed.
3. Administrative (10%)
- Complete all administrative documentation accurately and on time, including attendance, evaluation forms, certification paperwork, and course records.
- Maintain current certifications.
Qualifications
Successful applicants in this position must be at least 18 years old, hold a Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Trainer certification or National Lifeguard Instructor certification, and a valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C/AED and First Aid Instructor certification.
This position requires the ability to work days, evenings, and weekends.
Preference is given to applicants who also hold multiple of the above-listed certifications and are students.
Salary: $30.16 per hour
