About the role
Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Medical Device Reprocessing/Linen Services and Business Processes, the incumbent:
- Establishes and adjusts quotas of medical and surgical supplies, instrumentation and drugs required for ward and Operating Room [OR] trays.
- Maintains inventories of medical and surgical supplies (Linen Room, Linen Services, Respiratory Processing, Medical Device Reprocessing - O.R. and Medical Device Reprocessing supplies) against pre-established quotas, adjusts the orders to reflect varying demands of operating rooms and wards including the receiving and topping up of inventory supplies in the Medical Device Reprocessing Distribution centre.
- Places stock and non-stock orders on computer to replenish inventories.
- Prepares information for specialty supplies that are ordered annually and bi-annually including, quantities required for the year, pricing from three companies and ordering the supplies.
- Supports departmental variance analysis by analyzing expense code expenditures.
Experience
- Two years inventory control and supply acquisition experience in a related healthcare setting, preferably an operating room required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
- Courses in Basic Accounting required.
- Courses in inventory management and medical terminology preferred.
SPECIAL TRAINING:
- Successful completion of a recognized Sterile Processing Technician program an asset.
- Knowledge of O.R. supplies required.
- Proficient in the use of SAP & TDOC-2 years’ experience preferred.
- Must complete recognized WHMIS training and participate in relevant seminars and on the job training.

- Computer Skill - Windows based environment required.
- An ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong problem-solving skills essential.
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
Physical Requirements
- Position requires extensive lifting, bending, squatting and climbing when transferring stock from one area to another and from floor to shelving.
- Periods of computer work.
- Position requires constant walking, repetitive lifting, bending, stretching and pushing in the transferring of stock from one area to another, and from floor to shelving (approx. 40-451bs. per item).
- Repetitive hand, arm and shoulder motions required, and long periods of standing.
- Pushing and pulling pallet loads of inventory that may weigh up to 2100 lbs.
- Requires the handling of dangerous goods in the accordance with WHMIS regulations.
- May be required to work in cramped conditions where carrying items over obstacles and twisting motions are necessary (eg. Soap room).
