The South Australian State Emergency Service (SA SES) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Media and Communications Adviser to drive strategic communications and media engagement for one of the state’s most critical emergency services.
About The Role In this pivotal role, you will:
- Drive proactive and reactive media strategies: Protect and enhance SA SES’s profile and reputation through media engagement, responding to enquiries, and coordinating media conferences, alerts and interviews.
- Lead media and corporate communications projects: Deliver impactful media, corporate communications, public relations and branding initiatives that build trust and strengthen SA SES’s profile.
- Champion the SA SES brand: Ensure our brand is consistently seen as professional, trusted and aligned with the SA SES and government branding guidelines.
- Empower our people: Provide staff and volunteers expert advice, tools and training to support effective and consistent communication.
- Stay ahead of the issues: Monitor trends, manage emerging risks, and ensure timely, accurate public information before, during and after emergencies, including after-hours and on-call support when required.
About You You will be a confident communicator who thrives in fast-paced environments and knows how to manage complex issues under pressure. You will bring:
- Media and corporate communications expertise: You have a strong track record in media relations, corporate communications, and public affairs, and you write and speak with clarity, confidence and impact, even under pressure.
- Passion for brand professionalism: You take pride in championing a professional, trusted brand aligned with community and organisational expectations.
- Stakeholder engagement: You bring the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, including volunteers to senior leaders within the SA SES and Emergency Services Sector, media representatives, and staff across government and non-government organisations.
- A proactive and a solutions-focused mindset: You anticipate challenges, spot opportunities and deliver creative, effective media and communications strategies.
- Calm under pressure: You thrive in dynamic environments and can adapt quickly, including supporting after-hours and on-call needs during emergencies.

$98,478 - $104,165
Special Conditions Engagement will be subject to a satisfactory Emergency Services Sector Criminal History Check.
After hours work, on-call shifts and participation in operational duties (during times of emergency) will form part of this role. The successful candidate will be remunerated appropriately in these instances and in accordance with the relevant industrial instruments.
