Why is this role important?
We’re looking for a media-savvy communications professional to lead public relations and media strategies that elevate CIHI’s work and reach key audiences. As Program Consultant, Communications, this role supports complex organizational initiatives by identifying compelling stories and generating media attention for CIHI’s analytical report releases and broader insights. It drives proactive media outreach and manages media issues to protect and strengthen organizational reputation. Working across teams and with internal and external partners, the role ensures communications are coordinated and optimized for impact.
What you'll do
- Promote CIHI initiatives and analytical releases through targeted outreach, strategic media engagement and external engagement activities.
- Lead and support issues and media management, including identifying emerging risks, developing responsive messaging, and advising on reputational considerations.
- Monitor media coverage, build relationships with media, respond to ad hoc media inquiries, and work closely with subject matter experts to develop timely, accurate, and media-ready responses.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, along with associated communication material, for diverse internal and external audiences, translating complex subject matter into clear and accessible messaging.
- Develop briefing materials, background papers, and strategic communications, including recommendations to support decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate across communications functions (editorial, digital, media, internal) to ensure cohesive messaging, coordinated execution, and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Monitor and assess communications activities and stakeholder feedback, and adjust strategies to support continuous improvement and effectiveness
What you'll bring to the table
- Undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Minimum 5 years of related experience in media relations.
- Minimum 1–3 years of supervisory experience.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment.
- Superior writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Experience developing and delivering presentations and education to varied stakeholders.
- Ability to translate complex data and analytical content into clear, compelling messaging for external audiences.
- Strong judgment and experience in issues management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-paced team environment.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Healthcare experience is an asset.
