Department Description

Job Title: Student Porter

Location: University Hospital and/or Victoria Hospital as required

Duration: May 2026 until September 2026 or as otherwise required

Hours of Work: Up to 75 hours biweekly (no guarantee of minimum number of hours)

Responsibilities

Summer student positions provide eligible students the opportunity to gain meaningful temporary employment and experience working for London Health Sciences Centre. The selection of students to be considered is based on established qualifications and availability. The number of students to be hired for the year is yet to be determined.

Summer student positions which may become available are focused in our service areas. All positions are temporary, therefore you are not guaranteed any minimum number of hours per week, but can work up to full time hours. You may be provided a schedule, but there are many on-call shifts at the last minute in addition to any scheduled shifts. As we are a 24/7 facility, shift times cover weekends, statutory holidays, evenings, and overnights. Positions may be located at University Hospital and Victoria Hospital. Flexibility to work at any or all sites is required as departmental needs may vary.

Porter

Responsible for the transporting of patients, stats, specimens, documents, linen, supplies and equipment from one area of the hospital to another to facilitate the needs of patients, staff and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High standards of sanitation and safety
  • Mature, professional, and responsible attitude
  • Proven flexibility, adaptability and ability to manage change in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work well and independently with minimum supervision in a team environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed a grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Must be attending full-time education in September 2026
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to work from the beginning of May until the end of August
  • Must be available to work 24/7
