Job Synopsis
This full-time salaried position plays a pivotal role in advancing MCC Ontario’s Thrift Network by leading strategic growth initiatives, business development, and network expansion. Reporting to the Thrift Director, the Thrift Growth & Performance Manager supervises the Thrift Network Project Lead and collaborates with the Thrift Operations & Training Manager and General Managers to ensure MCC Ontario’s thrift strategy is executed effectively. This role leads special projects, coordinates network-wide initiatives and drives innovation and sustainability across the network.
This role is based in Kitchener, Ontario with regular visits to MCC Ontario Thrift Shops. Hybrid/flexible work options are available.

Required
- Bachelor’s Degree plus 5-7 years’ experience in retail, social enterprise, or nonprofit leadership. Preference given to those with 2+ years of supervisory experience and 2+ years of project management experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead operational initiatives and coach diverse teams
- Strong planning, analysis, and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to MCC’s mission, values, and faith-based approach
- Ability to travel within Ontario and Canada and work occasional evenings/weekends.
- Support, promote, and develop systems that maintain a safe and healthy work environment according to MCC's Safeguarding policies.
- Valid ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license
- Criminal records check (required upon hire)
- Legally able to work in Canada
Key Responsibilities
Ontario Thrift Network Coordination & Execution

Drive Network-Level Performance: Develop strategies, initiatives, and support systems to enable General Managers to achieve operational and financial goals.

Provide Actionable Recommendations: Offer interventions and guidance to support General Manager success, with evidence of improved shop performance or resolution of identified barriers.

Monitor Performance Trends: Track performance across all shops and recommend interventions to support General Manager success.

Collaborate with General Managers: Identify barriers and opportunities for improved shop performance, providing necessary guidance and resources.

Oversee Special Projects: Manage network-wide projects (e.g., MCC Picks Up), ensuring milestones are met and lessons learned are documented for future improvements.

Translate Strategic Priorities: Convert MCC Ontario's strategic priorities into actionable plans for network growth and performance.

Represent Shop Performance: Present shop performance outcomes in MCC Ontario leadership forums.

Participate in Thrift Meetings: Engage in internal MCC Canada thrift meetings and initiatives as needed.

Ensure Alignment for Growth: Work with the Thrift Operations & Training Manager to ensure alignment and readiness for growth.
Operational Growth & Business Development

Support Growth Initiatives: Build the organization's readiness for expansion to implement growth initiatives aligned with MCC Ontario’s strategic pillars as directed by the Thrift Director.

Lead Feasibility Assessments: Conduct assessments for new shop locations, models, and partnerships.

Develop Business Cases: Create business cases and pilot proposals for network expansion.

Coordinate Cross-Functional Teams: Collaborate with Finance, Facilities, HR, and Marketing teams for shop launches and expansions.

Document Lessons Learned: Record insights from past initiatives to inform future operational improvements.
Special Projects & Implementation

Provide Strategic Direction: Offer guidance and support to the Thrift Network Project Lead in executing MCC Picks Up and other network-wide projects.

Lead and Oversee Projects: Drive innovation and operational excellence by leading, co-leading, or overseeing special projects and pilots across the network.

Manage Project Logistics: Oversee project logistics, data tracking, and pilot implementation (executed by the Thrift Network Project Lead), ensuring alignment with MCC Ontario’s mission and strategic priorities.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including assisting with special events and projects as needed

Notes re: Authority & Collaboration
- Supervises the Thrift Network Project Lead, providing coaching, evaluation, support, and goal setting.
- Does not supervise General Managers or directly manage shop-level operations; General Managers report to the Thrift Director.
- Provides input into General Managers’ performance appraisals through supplemental assessments, project feedback, and network-level performance reviews, but does not conduct formal performance evaluations.
- Collaborates with General Managers, Core Services, and Thrift Operations & Training Manager and participates in the Cross-Departmental Leadership team.
- Holds authority for network-level performance initiatives, business development, and special projects, but does not make final decisions on individual shop operations.
- Final decisions on operational changes, pilots, or training content require review and sign-off by the Thrift Director.
