Description The Vaccine and Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO), Canada’s Centre for Pandemic Research, is a world leader in infectious disease research and vaccine development for humans and animals. Located at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, VIDO is home to one of the largest and most advanced containment level 3 facilities in the world. To strengthen the preparedness for emerging infectious diseases we are currently expanding our infrastructure to include containment level 4 capacity, a GMP vaccine manufacturing facility, and a new animal housing facility. Our vision includes having the capacity to study any emerging disease in any animal model embracing a One Health approach to prevent emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in humans and animals.

Position Summary Dr. Neeraj Dhar, Principal Scientist, is seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow to join his team.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow with expertise in organoid technology and development of microtissue models. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research utilizing advanced in vitro models to unravel host-pathogen interactions and accelerate therapeutic development.

Role The successful candidate will work with diverse organoid and microtissue models to investigate a range of infectious agents. This research utilizes various organoid types derived from different tissues and species. The role involves applying and potentially developing advanced techniques, including:

  • Disease modeling
  • Host-pathogen interactions
  • Screening and evaluation of therapeutics
  • Integration with microphysiological systems and organ-on-chip technologies

Profile We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Fellow with the following competencies and experience:

Essential Experience And Skills

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Immunology)
  • Demonstrated expertise in organoid culture techniques from stem cells or primary cells
  • Experience applying microtissue models to study infectious diseases

Desirable Experience And Skills

  • Proficiency in relevant laboratory techniques (e.g., cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology)
  • Experience with co-culture techniques (e.g., with immune cells)
  • Familiarity with high-throughput screening methods or automation
  • Track record of high-quality publications in relevant research area

Status: 2-year term, with possibility of extension

Employment Group: Post-Doctoral Fellows – PSAC

Shift: 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours per week

Full Time Equivalent (FTE): 1.0

Salary Information: The starting salary will follow the university standard for a postdoctoral researcher and will be commensurate with experience.
