The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist Engineer to join our Information Technology team in Toronto or Sudbury, Ontario.
This is a permanent position, on Monday to Friday schedule, working a hybrid between the Toronto or Sudbury office and a home office. There will be frequent visits to the Canadian Operations.
As a Senior Specialist Engineer, you strategically align technology with business objectives in production, maintenance, and technical services. You drive digital transformation, streamline processes, and integrate IT/OT to deliver measurable results. The role also supports governance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring IT maximizes value for Vale Base Metals operations.
Additionally, in this position you will work in:

Strategic Alignment: Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to define IT/OT strategies and roadmaps for systems such as ERP, MES, PIMS, LIMS, Controls, and Automation, ensuring alignment with plant and process objectives.

Value Delivery: Translate engineering and operational needs into IT/OT initiatives that drive measurable improvements in throughput, reliability, and cost-efficiency.

Budget Management: Support OPEX/CAPEX planning and execution with a focus on technology investments that enhance asset performance and process control.

IT/OT Integration: Act as a liaison between engineering, maintenance, and IT/OT teams to ensure seamless integration of systems and technologies into daily operations.

Governance & Risk: Promote adherence to IT/OT governance frameworks and engineering standards; proactively identify operational risks and support mitigation strategies.

Digital Transformation: Champion the deployment of digital tools and automation technologies that improve equipment uptime, reduce manual effort, and enable data-driven decision-making.

Business Process Optimization: Partner with engineering and technical services to document, analyze, and improve workflows that interact with IT/OT systems.

Stakeholder Engagement: Embed within operational teams to understand engineering challenges and strategic priorities, ensuring technology solutions are fit-for-purpose and scalable.
About You
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Experience
- 10-15 years experience in mining and/or processing plant operations
Skills:
- Advanced English proficiency.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Power BI.
- Deep understanding of mining and metals industry operations.
- Project management experience.
- Ability to influence strategic decisions and engage with stakeholders.
- Experience with SAP Fiori and S/4HANA.
- Knowledge of agile methodologies.
- Proficiency in Lean or problem-solving methods.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
