Permanent Full-Time
Child and Youth Mental Health Outreach Worker
As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Child and Youth Mental Health Outreach Worker provides after-hours mental health response services to children and youth under the age of 18, Monday through Friday from 15:00-23:00 in the Dryden area. They bridge services for children, youth and their families to mental health services, and facilitate seamless and timely transition from community child and youth mental health urgent response and ongoing counselling services. They provide intervention to children and youth with mental health and substance abuse concerns, and prevention support, in person or over the telephone.
Responsibilities
Provide mental health situational interventions, mental health crisis prevention and support, in person or over the telephone Provide clients with the opportunity to safely explore their mental health and/or substance abuse concerns, and seek methods of stabilization and/or resolution Assist clients to identify, use and further develop personal strengths and coping strategies Complete the Columbia Suicide Risk Assessment and develop a safety plan Initiate any other referrals based on the needs of each individual Provide supportive counseling Complete required documentation in a thorough and timely manner Participate in relevant meetings and on-going professional development Contact CFS agencies as needed (duty to report) Attend psychiatric consults through the MHAN (Mental Health and Addictions Nurses) Educate parents/caregivers in learning how to best support Advocate clients' needs in schools, hospital and other agencies Complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:
Degree in social work or psychology preferred, Diploma in Social Work required Membership in College of Social Work or equivalent- CRPO, RN/RPN required Demonstrated ability to work with children and youth and families in crisis and provide non- judgmental, compassionate support Experience working with children and youth with a mental illness, mental health crisis, problem substance use and concurrent disorders Knowledge of services available in the Kenora Rainy River District Thorough knowledge of family systems model Suicide intervention training Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training Demonstrated ability to work with individuals in crisis and provide non-judgmental, compassionate support Ability to work independently Commitment to work evenings, nights and weekends Prompt and accurate documentation skills are necessary, as files are often released and/or subpoenaed Critical decision making skills are necessary Possess a valid Ontario driver's license and have unlimited access to a vehicle/2 million liability insurance Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Good time management and organizational skills Demonstrates behaviours consistent with Dryden Regional Health Centre's Code of Conduct and Standards of Behaviour Demonstrates DRHC Core Values; Accountability, Integrity, Humility, Compassion and Respect Proof of full Covid-19 vaccination status to be presented prior to hire
This is a Non-Union position. Starting salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, $65,384-$68,075 pluscomprehensive vacation and benefits package. Applicants are requested to forward a completed resume and cover letter to: hr@drhc.on.ca

We are a 42 bed full service Regional Health Centre located in the family friendly city of Dryden, Ontario. We are powered by 300 highly engaged staff and everyone here understands their contribution to health care and the patient experience. Our leadership team, board of directors and physicians work well together to achieve full accreditation status; manage our finances and forecast the changing the needs of our catchment region.
Our hospital features a 24/7/365 ER department supported by on site Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Services; 16 physicians support all aspects of local health care delivery including General Surgery, Oncology, Fracture Clinic, Primary Care, Emergency Medicine and much more. We have maintained a balanced budget for over 15 years through prudent fiscal management and partnering with the local and broader community for capital fundraising efforts.
