Your Opportunity Our Risk Advisory Services practice is seeking a Digital Accessibility and Inclusive Design Consultant to join our growing Accessibility Consulting team. The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing and improving the accessibility and inclusivity of digital products and services for our clients. This role goes beyond compliance and seeks someone who brings a deep understanding of universal design principles and an enthusiasm for creating inclusive digital experiences.

The consultant will also support internal accessibility initiatives at BDO and collaborate with teams across the firm to advance accessibility in both internal systems and client-facing solutions. This may include working alongside our Digital Advisory and Technology teams, Data & AI and Managed Services groups, and our Marketing & MarTech teams.

This role can be based in any major Canadian city, with hybrid work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct digital accessibility assessments and audits for client websites, mobile applications, software, and other digital assets, aligned with WCAG 2.1/2.2 and CAN/ASC-EN 301 549 standards.
  • Lead and perform manual testing using assistive technologies such as screen readers, magnifiers, voice control, and keyboard-only navigation.
  • Evaluate accessibility in emerging technologies, including AI systems, ensuring inclusive design and ethical use of automated decision-making.
  • Go beyond compliance by applying universal design and human-centered design principles to improve usability and inclusion for all users.
  • Collaborate with UX, design, and development teams to guide accessible design from the earliest stages of the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare detailed accessibility reports and remediation strategies tailored to technical and organizational contexts.
  • Develop and deliver training and capacity-building sessions for clients and internal teams to embed accessibility within their operations.
  • Support business development activities by contributing to proposals and thought leadership on digital inclusion and accessibility innovation.

Your Experience And Education

  • Diploma or post-secondary degree in Computer Science, UX/UI Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Accessibility, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience conducting digital accessibility assessments, audits, or usability reviews.
  • Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1/2.2, EN 301 549, and Canadian accessibility legislation and standards.
  • Demonstrated understanding of universal design and inclusive design principles, and how these extend beyond regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with assistive technologies (e.g., NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack) and testing tools (e.g., Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse).
  • Familiarity with front-end development practices, semantic HTML, ARIA, and accessibility design patterns.
  • Awareness of AI and machine learning tools and how they can enhance or hinder accessibility.
  • Experience participating in or leading stakeholder engagement processes with persons with disabilities.
  • Ability to translate accessibility principles into actionable guidance for technical and non-technical teams.
  • Accessibility certifications (such as IAAP CPACC, WAS, or CPABE) are an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) and lived experience of disability are considered assets.
