Closing Date (YYYY-MM-DD): 2025-11-12** Job Description The Officer provides the national focus and direction across the Engineering, Maintenance and Real Estate groups to ensure compliance to safety standards for all mechanized mail processing facilities and equipment. The objectives are to optimize employee safety, and ensure that the corporation complies with federal, provincial, municipal and other Health and Safety (H&S) standards, procedures, policies and regulations.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads the development review and modification annual H&S plans which include but is not limited to such items as scheduling of field and plant audits or assessments, frequency and locations, contacts and suppliers, process maps and KPIs. Consults with key Stakeholders to ensure integration of responsibilities. Presents plan to the Manager for approval and implementation.
- Performs H&S audits in Canada Post plants. Ensures that weekly safety meetings are occurring, HSE safety checks are being completed, equipment modifications have been completed to specifications, and thorough analysis, that risks are identified and solutions developed and implemented.
- Participates in the selection process for tendering/lease/purchases to ensure risk mitigation, safety and effectiveness of design and operations through legislative compliance; identification and management of risk factors and reliability from tender stage through to successful completion of projects.
- Leads continuous improvement initiative. Works with vendor to modify, develop or create relevant guidelines based on current legislation and CPC standards. Develops Request for Proposal documents and manages the national contracts with vendor for Safety Programs.
- Resolves contentious safety issues and complex problems, in many instances requiring close contact with union representatives. Acts as a representative of Canada Post and defends the Corporation in issues that have resulted in grievances or arbitrations or other forums (i.e. Workers Compensation Board) where subject matter expertise is required to support the position of the company.

- Coordinates and performs H&S assessments of equipment and at facilities for proposed new work.
- Assists in the development of course materials for Operations.
- Reviews employee safety programs to determine their adequacy and recommends improvement strategies.
- Acts as resource to assist in the development of Corporate Manual System (CMS) documents as required.
Qualifications Education
- Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training
Experience
- 1 to 3 years of relevant functional experience
- One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset

- Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
- Enrolment in specific designation and or certifications programs may be required for certain positions (e.g. Engineering).
- Strong communication and analytical skills
