About the role

Zaber is looking to add a knowledgeable Systems Administrator to our IT Systems team to boost our resilience and help take our IT infrastructure to the next level. We are an employee-owned company that designs and manufactures precision motion control equipment for customers in photonics, life sciences, and industrial automation and you would be part of a small team of dedicated IT professionals working closely with staff across a growing ~200 person company. The average technical competence of your coworkers is high and your tasks would range from working with senior software developers to set up and administer dedicated servers and systems for their work (our website, ERP system, product firmware, customer facing software and many internal automation tools are all developed in-house) to strengthening our cybersecurity practices and ensuring all staff have appropriate software tools, network access and support to do their jobs. The IT team is a valued and respected part of the company and we pride ourselves on finding reliable, efficient and cost-effective IT solutions for our colleagues. This role will give you the opportunity to use your experience and creativity to support and enhance the company’s continued growth. As a Systems Administrator, you will: Administer and maintain on-site Windows and Linux systems as well as cloud based services such as Google Workspace, AWS, and Microsoft 365. Configure and maintain network infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable network connections for employees across 5 buildings (in the same business park) as well as working remotely. Administer and maintain business systems including ticketing platforms, monitoring tools, and custom ERP software. Write and maintain scripts in PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate tasks and support infrastructure improvements. Act as back-up for front line technical support (equipment procurement/provisioning, troubleshooting employee technical issues/requests, ensuring shared IT equipment is up and running) Occasionally provide off-hours support to ensure critical business systems are available for colleagues who need them. (Hours at Zaber are flexible in general, and most tasks can be done during regular business hours; however the IT-Systems team takes ownership of ensuring employees have the IT tools they need for their work and the impact of downtime is minimal, which occasionally involves off-hours work for troubleshooting or to reduce the impact of upgrades/migrations) You're the ideal Systems Administrator if you have: A passion for learning and enthusiasm for understanding your co-workers needs in order to find the optimal technical solutions. Hands-on experience with Windows and Linux system administration, working with services such as database management systems (e.g. mysql, postgresql, etc.), web services (e.g. nginx) and docker. A working understanding of networking such as VLANs, firewall rules, VPN configuration, and Wi-Fi management. Scripting ability in PowerShell, Bash, or Python, applied to real infrastructure problems. A methodical, documentation-minded approach to infrastructure work, with the patience to understand a system fully before improving it. An understanding of cybersecurity risks and best practices. Systems Administrator Wage: The starting wage for the role is $40 - $65/hour, depending on experience. Type: Full-time, Permanent This position is primarily on-site, but once familiar with the role, remote work 1 day per week could be accommodated Selected Benefits: PHSP (health, dental & vision), Stock Options & Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Flexible Schedule, Paid Time Off, Casual Dress, Commuter Benefits, EAP Team: IT Systems To learn more about our company culture and benefits, visit our careers page: https://www.zaber.com/careers.
