POSITION: Compliance Analyst
Northleaf Capital Partners is offering the opportunity to join a leading and growing private markets investment firm. Northleaf is hiring a Compliance Analyst to join its Legal & Compliance team, reporting to the Vice President, Legal & Compliance. This role supports the firm’s global compliance program by ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies, with a focus on maintaining ethical conduct across the organization. Northleaf is a private markets manager and advisor registered with securities regulators in multiple jurisdictions, including the CSA across Canada, the SEC in the US and the FCA in the UK. The Analyst will help manage and enhance compliance frameworks across Northleaf’s offices, particularly in the UK, EU, and APAC, and contribute to the development of the firm’s overall compliance strategy.
As Northleaf expands its global footprint, including marketing its private markets investment products in the UK, Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Asia, the Analyst will play a key role in navigating complex regulatory environments and implementing procedures to ensure compliance. This hands-on role involves close collaboration with the Legal & Compliance team and cross-functional engagement with Product Development, Investor Relations, Sales, Operations, and HR.
Key Accountabilities
Specific Areas Of Involvement Will Include
- Providing support to implement the regulatory structure and approach to private funds distribution models in Europe, Australia and Asia for various Northleaf products
- Reviewing marketing materials for multiple jurisdictions, due diligence questionnaires and other client communications and liaising with the Investor Relations and Sales Teams regarding same
- Taking on responsibility for registrations of Northleaf and/or Northleaf funds in new jurisdictions, including pursuant to AIFMD requirements in the United Kingdom and Europe, and Asia
- Working closely with fund administrators, specifically in the EU with respect to Northleaf’s EU-domiciled fund vehicles.
- Participating in fund closing/investor onboarding process, including collecting and reviewing investor information to ensure KYC, AML and securities law compliance
- Assisting management and other business unit partners in ad hoc compliance-related projects, as assigned. Monitoring, updating, and drafting internal controls, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and internal guidelines
- Maintaining the Compliance Manual, compliance program testing, employee compliance reporting and training
- Liaising with regulators and providing support on regulatory examinations and inquiries, as needed
- Keeping abreast of regulatory developments and assessing impact on business operations; support the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures that enable the firm to remain in compliance with regulatory requirements
The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the Vice President, Legal & Compliance to respond to requests from regulators, investors and members of the Northleaf team and escalating issues as necessary. Qualifications
- University undergraduate degree (preferably in Business, Finance or Law)
- A minimum of two years of relevant compliance experience working in-house at an asset management firm, fund administrator or law firm in a role involving investment fund management/distribution
- Experience working in a role that requires knowledge of AIFMD (both UK and EU), ESMA and other securities regulations
- Excellent drafting, editing and writing skills with very close attention to detail
- Exceptional time management, planning and organizational skills and follow-through; ability to meet strict deadlines by multitasking and prioritizing assigned deliverables
- Self-starter with strong initiative
- Prioritization, perspective and focus on critical tasks that add value; demonstrated ability to be proactive
- Natural ability to develop relationships, internally and externally; confidence to interact with individuals from all levels of the business and relevant external partners
