  • This permanent, full-time role is based at the Kemano Power Station, with employees residing in Kitimat, BC. While the position follows a rotational schedule (Tuesday to Friday on-site), it is not a FIFO arrangement—employees commute weekly from their home in Kitimat and stay at the Kemano site during their workdays. Kitimat offers the perfect balance of small-town tranquility and access to world-class outdoor recreation.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join the Asset Integrity Team delivering business value through technical expertise and innovations in our hydroelectric generating station, located in Kemano, BC. This role involves working closely with the Maintenance and Operations teams to restore, sustain, and improve safe and stable operations while monitoring and responding to key performance measures and trends.

You will be based at the Kemano camp during their regular Tuesday to Friday work schedule. Kemano is located approximately 80 km from Kitimat, and employees are transported to and from the site by boat at the beginning and end of each rotation. Please note that transportation is provided from Kitimat only, and this is not a FIFO arrangement. On occasion, you may also be required to work from the Kitimat site to collaborate with Power Operations leaders and other stakeholders.

Reporting to the Asset Management Superintendent and residing at the Kemano site from Tuesday to Friday, you will be:

  • Adhering to Rio Tinto Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards in problem-solving and working practices.
  • Improving equipment performance and reliability through asset management best practices.
  • Innovating in planning and executing routine and major works to add value and reduce production impact.
  • Creating detailed task and safe work procedures to ensure quality maintenance outcomes.
  • Developing and enhancing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Managing and improving material specifications, substitutions, and bills of materials.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to maintainers in the field for both immediate and long-term issues, including critical matters outside of regular office hours.
  • Conducting root cause analysis and defect elimination to identify and close performance gaps.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • At least five years of engineering experience in processing plants, mining, manufacturing, power generation, pulp and paper, or similar heavy industry environments.
  • Knowledge and experience using SAP for developing maintenance strategies, work orders and spare parts
  • Maintenance and Reliability experience:
    • Ability to facilitate and lead Problem Solving Sessions, RCAs, FMEA
    • Data driven decision making
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering: Specialization or experience in High Voltage Generation, transmission or distribution preferred
  • Registered or immediate eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) and remain in good standing.
  • Possess intermediate troubleshooting skills and a proactive, strategic mindset.
  • Exhibit clear, engaging interpersonal and communication abilities – ability to work and engage with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent knowledge of work management processes.

The base salary range for this role is $100,800 - $151,200 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
