Finance Manager for not-for-profit community services client, downtown Toronto.

Job Type: Full-Time Permanent.

Target Start Date: November 1, 2025.

Target Compensation: From $77,000 to $85,000 per annum, according to experience + excellent benefits.

Regular Work Hours: From either 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, or 10 am to 6 pm, with .5 hour lunch break, Monday to Friday (37.5 work hours per week).

Work Location: 100% onsite at client's downtown Toronto office with free parking provided.

Ergonomic Requirements: In addition to regular desk work, ergonomic requirements include frequent climbing up and down stairs, and walking outside between nearby buildings.

Position Reports To: Executive Director. In addition, works closely with the Board of Directors Finance Committee and external Auditors.

Responsibilities Summary:

Oversee organization-wide financial operations including day-to-day financial administration, and grant and project funding tracking and reporting, for a downtown Toronto charitable organization managing multiple properties and program service locations. Will be responsible for managing funding and client accounts, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting, and driving budgeting and forecasting.

Leadership Responsibilities (Direct Supervisory): Responsible for supervising one full cycle bookkeeper/payroll administrator who handles AP/AR, payroll and benefits administration functions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Manage funder relations including funding submissions, and provision of statistical and written reports to provincial and municipal funding bodies.
  • Maintain ongoing full cycle accounting on a timely and accurate basis, including preparation of financial statements for Board and Management.
  • Develop budgets and perform operational, capital and project cost analysis to optimize financial performance.
  • Conduct account reconciliation to ensure accuracy in financial reporting. Conduct risk analysis and implement internal controls.
  • Collaborate with resource staff and clients to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Analyze investment opportunities and provide recommendations based on housing sector trends.
  • Oversee accounts receivable and payable processing, ensuring all financial transactions and reports are accurate.
  • Oversee bi-weekly payroll and benefits administration for salaried and hourly staff.
  • Additional accounting and financial management and reporting responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

Education: University Degree in Accounting and Financial Management.

Professional Credentials: Enrolment in CPA program.

Preferred Work Experience: At least 3+ years of progressive work experience with Canadian not-for-profit GAAP.

Preferred Sector Experience: Proven accounting and financial management experience in the Canadian non-profit sector, including working with funders and meeting funder reporting standards.

Leadership Experience and Skills: Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills suitable to a highly diverse environment. An interpersonal skills assessment will be administered as part of the application.

Technical and Language Skills Requirements:

  • Advanced proficiency in MSExcel (will be tested).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in QuickBooks (will be tested).
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for not-for-profit accounting (will be tested).
  • Excellent numeracy and attention to detail (will be tested).
  • Familiarity with Yardi, ADP WorkForce Now and SharePoint.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, including strong business writing skills, and verbal presentation skills suitable for a diverse range of audiences including senior leadership.

Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes:

  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for not-for-profit accounting. Strong understanding of bookkeeping, accounting principles, budgeting, and cashflow management (will be tested).
  • Knowledge of government and other contract management, including experience making funding reports to municipal and provincial level funders.
  • Proficient in risk analysis and risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Responsible, reliable and works to deadlines.
  • Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and engage with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, at all levels of seniority.
  • Strong relationship management skills including client and vendor relations management, business networking, negotiation, change management and consulting/advisory skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated successful experience of prioritizing work, making decisions and communicating with others within a values framework of respect, equity, anti-racism, diversity and inclusivity.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
  • Ability to work 100% onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
  • Ability to promptly provide 3 qualified employment references upon request who are available to speak with either Marberg or Marberg's client.
  • Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of position responsibilities.
  • Ability to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector security check upon request. Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security check upon submission of approved expense receipts.
  • Additional satisfactory Background Checks, Technical Skills Evaluations, Interpersonal Skills Assessment, and Employment References as required.
