Section chief – Environment

Salary scale: 87291$ – 124 827$

Reporting to the Division chief, you plan, manage and supervise all your section’s activities related to the instauration of an environmental culture at both the department and city levels.

Responsabilities

The Section chief is a resource person recognized for its environmental expertise and an intermediary for internal and external.

The main responsabilities are :

  • Manage all activities under his/her responsability in accordance with laws, politics, directives and regulation
  • Recommend guidelines and objectives for the unit in regards of the priorities of the division
  • Manage efficiently human, material and financial resources
  • Drafting specifications and call to tenders in regard to waste management materials, environmental studies and an environmental reference line for citizens
  • Ensure that work entrusted to third parties complies with the requirements of the specifications and handles the various follow-ups
  • Define the general framework for pilot projects, set trajectories and monitor deliverables in the field with the citizens
  • Supervise the work carried out by subcontractors and make the necessary corrections
  • Organize awareness-raising activities aimed at supporting citizens in change management in regards if environmental issues
  • Supervise students and a technical agent
  • Handles requests and complaints of citizens regarding the unit
  • Performs reporting in conjunction with various organizations and agglomeration
  • Monitors available subsidies for putting in place environmental projects. Follows up on requests with clients internally and externally
  • Participate in various committees in regard to the field of expertise
  • Provides technical support and environmental expertise to division chiefs, consultants and contractors during the preparation and execution of projects.

Qualifications required

Qualifications

  • University degree in environmental studies, sustainable development, biology or any related fields
  • 2 to 5 years of pertinent experience in a municipality
  • Good knowledge of pertinent legislations, norms and practices
  • Comfortable using computer tools : Suite office, Adobe, project management
  • Ability to analyse complex situations and to communicate effectively with parties
  • Autonomy, rigor, analytical skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Bilingual, oral and written
  • Valid driver’s license.
